AFL: Pies set for tough Bulldogs test

Collingwood will face another stern examination of their premiership credentials when they take on the Western Bulldogs at Marvel on Friday night.

The Pies and Port Adelaide are sitting top of the ladder in a two-horse race for the minor premiership, but the Bulldogs are also sitting pretty in sixth.

Collingwood passed a tough test last weekend when seeing off the Gold Coast and need to do the same again or risk losing top spot.

The Bulldogs will have set their sights on finishing in the top four to boost their grand final hopes and will be going all out for the win.

Friday night football is always prime-time and all lovers of the AFL could be in for a treat this week.

Bulldogs out to stun Pies

The Bulldogs have got their season back on track following three defeats on the spin that left them looking over their shoulder.

Two of those defeats did come on home soil against the in-form Port Adelaide and Geelong, while they also lost to the Suns on the Gold Coast.

However they will be delighted with the 102-73 win over Fremantle last weekend that should give them some confidence heading into the Collingwood clash.

They can also take heart from the fact they have won the last two encounters against the Pies. In 2022, they won by 48 points and 16 points was the winning margin in 2021.

It will be a different Collingwood side they face on Friday night, but if everything plays out as expected, we could be in for another tight encounter.

If the Bulldogs are to edge it, they can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points.

They will also need another big performance from their skipper Marcus Bontempelli, who is averaging 7.7 tackles and 14.2 contested possessions a game this season.

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was in great form against the Dockers last game when booting four goals and the key forward is priced at 13.00 to score the first against the Pies.

Pies back on track

Collingwood suffered just their second defeat of the season when losing to Melbourne by four points a few weeks ago, but they have bounced back well.

They edged out Adelaide by two points the week after, before overcoming a potential banana skin against the Gold Coast Suns.

The Pies romped to a 78-point win on the Gold Coast and now face a tricky test against the Bulldogs.

Brody Mihocek has booted 32 goals this season, but Collingwood will be without a key forward on this occasion.

Mihocek has reported hamstring tightness following the win last weekend and the Pies will take no risks.

However, there is some good news as Jordan De Goey will return from suspension.

Nick Daicos is also continuing to shine in midfield, averaging 33.5 disposals a game this season, and he is priced at 2.50 to produce 35+ on Friday.
