Australian Racing: Pinnace eyeing Sandown success

There’s five meetings set to take place on Wednesday and here are our three selections for the day’s action.

Race 4 Sandown Hillside

Pinnace @ 17.00

Race 6 Randwick Kensington

Impactfull Miss @ 9.00

Race 5 Doomben

Chernak @ 3.60

Pinnace to bounce back

The fourth race of the day at Sandown Hillside is an interesting Benchmark 70 fillies & mares event set to take place over 1000m.

Trainer Tom Dabernig saddles Miss Balvenie here who is expected to have her supporters following a close-up fifth in a 1000m Benchmark 78 event at this venue early last month.

Racing first up on a soft 7 track on that occasion the four-year-old filly was beaten less than two lengths in a race that has produced subsequent winners.

Barrier 13 is a negative on this occasion however and while she failed to shine when racing here first up PINNACE may prove capable of bouncing back with a victory for jockey Ben Melham.

The selection was ridden with more restraint than is usually the case when a well held 10th of 13 over this course and distance in a Benchmark 78 event on the 27th May.

The daughter of Astern had shown good form on a sound surface last spell, winning twice including over 1100m at Geelong in January, but has shown fair form on wet tracks in the past.

Handler James Cummings boasts a 25% strike-rate (5/20) at this venue this season and his only runner on the card is taken to deliver a second-up success.

Miss to make big impact

The concluding race on Randwick Kensington’s six-race card takes the eye with the 1000m Benchmark 64 event attracting a field of 12.

The going is expected to be a good 4 with Hi Dubai expected to jump as favourite for the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott team.

The filly made the perfect start to her racing career when delivering a four-length victory in an 1100m maiden event at Canterbury in December.

The daughter of Highland Reel failed to shine in the 1200m Gosford Guineas when coming home last of eight at Gosford later that month.

Barrier nine isn’t ideal dropping back in distance here and taking that into account IMPACTFULL MISS is preferred for Annabel Neasham.

The three-year-old has a good alley three off the rail here and heads into this contest the winner of both of her starts to date including over 1000m in a Benchmark 66 event at Goulburn on 27th May.

The pick was returning from over a year off the track that day having made a winning debut in a 900m event on a good 4 surface at Newcastle in April last year.

Promising apprentice Jett Stanley takes the ride here and Impactfull Miss is taken to make a successful switch to metro racing.

Chernak to salute at Doomben

CHERNAK takes the eye in the fifth race of the day at Doomben. The race concerned is a 2040m Benchmark 70 event set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

The pick showed good form in France back in 2021 and registered his first victory since switching hemispheres when taking out a 2210m Class 1 event at Ipswich last month.

The five-year-old drew five-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals with the subsequent victory of the fourth home boosting the form subsequently.

Trained by Chris Waller the selection has a good alley here and looks capable of completing a double with apprentice Casey Waddell, on board at Ipswich retaining the ride.
