Aussie Rules: Port have the Power for Demons clash

Port Adelaide and Melbourne will get round 10 of the AFL underway on Friday night, and with both sides locked together on 28 points, we could be in for a cracker.

The top of the ladder is tight to say the least as Collingwood lead the way on 32 points, with Port, Melbourne and Brisbane Lions sat just below them on 28.

Then there is a four-point gap to St Kilda and Western Bulldogs, who sit fifth and sixth respectively.

Port and Melbourne will be looking to push for minor premiership and flag glory in 2023, and although it is still very early days, Friday night’s game is crucial.

Whoever wins will jump to the top alongside Collingwood for 48 hours at least, and may stay there depending on how the Pies go on against Carlton Sunday.

So it is fair to say there is a lot riding on the game that will be played in front of a packed Adelaide Oval.

Port Adelaide head into the game on a hot run of form having won the last six games on the bounce, and will be confident of making it seven.

The alarm bells will have been sounding after the Power lost the derby clash against Adelaide by 31 points, but they have responded in perfect fashion.

Ken Hinkley’s side have seen off some top opposition in the form of the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and Essendon, but this could be their sternest test yet.

However they should be buzzing after smashing North Melbourne 135-65 at the weekend and need to carry that form into the clash against the Demons.

Apart from the derby defeat against the Crows, Port are unbeaten at the Adelaide Oval, and Melbourne will know they are in for a tough game in front of a passionate home support.

Jeremy Finlayson has been in hot form for the Power when booting 14 goals this season, including three against North Melbourne on Saturday.

The forward can be backed at 7.00 to score the first on Saturday or 1.07 to boot one anytime during the game.

Toughest test yet for the Demons

Like Port Adelaide, Melbourne sit 7-2 for the season so far, but head into the game on the back of four straight wins, not six.

The opposition has not been the strongest in the AFL, with the Demons seeing off North Melbourne, Gold Coast and Hawthorn in the last three games.

The trip to the Adelaide Oval will be much harder and the Demons did not go too well when playing top opposition interstate earlier in the season.

They lost by 11 points to Brisbane, but have since won away at struggling West Coast Eagles and the Gold Coast Suns.

Melbourne also boast an impressive recent record against Port Adelaide when winning the last three meetings between the two sides.

Not only that, two of them were at the Adelaide Oval, so the Demons will hold no fear. The biggest winning margin in those three games was 34 points, and Melbourne are priced at 7.00 to win by 25-36 on Friday night.

Bayley Fritsch has booted 18 goals so far this season and is priced at 1.08 to score at anytime.

Port will also have to keep a close eye on Clayton Oliver, who continues to shine, and is averaging 33.3 disposals a game.
