AFL: Port looking to close the gap

Collingwood have the chance to take a stranglehold on the AFL minor premiership when they take on Port Adelaide in the big game of the weekend.

The Magpies and Port have been setting the pace at the top of the ladder and it has been a two-horse race for top spot for some time now.

Port Adelaide slipped up against Carlton last week, allowing Collingwood to open up a four-point lead, but they can claw it back on Saturday.

Finishing in the top two is huge and both sides will also be keen to keep the chasing pack away, with third-placed Brisbane two wins behind Port Adelaide.

The two sides have already met once this season, with Collingwood coming out on top as convincing winners, and they are now targeting the double.

Power need to respond

Port Adelaide had been flying until they came up against a revitalised Carlton last weekend.

They had lost just two games heading into the clash against the Blues, only to suffer a 50-point loss at Marvel Stadium.

Ken Hinkley’s men will now be out to respond and will be delighted to back on home turf at the Adelaide Oval.

They have lost just once at the venue this season, against the Crows in the derby clash, so it is fair to say it has been a fortress for them.

The last time these two sides met at the Adelaide Oval was back in July 2021 and it was Port who came out on top, winning by 28 points.

They would be more than happy with a similar result and can be backed at 8.50 to win by 25-36 points on Saturday.

Jeremy Finlayson continues to be a big threat when kicking 32 goals this season, and the forward is priced at 12.00 to boot the first goal of the game.

Hot Pies look to kick on

After opening up a four-point lead at the top of the ladder, the Pies have a great chance to take a step closer to the minor premiership.

They did smash Port Adelaide by 71 points at the start of the season, but the Power would like to think they are now a different side.

The previous game was much closer with Collingwood winning by six points, and there is a good chance the latest meeting will also be close.

Collingwood have lost just two games this season and both of them have been away from home, at Melbourne and Brisbane, so the trip Adelaide will be a true test of their premiership credentials.

They have won their last four games and two of those have been away, at Western Bulldogs and Gold Coast Suns.

Defensive duo Nick Daicos and skipper Darcy Moore will again be key to their chances of getting the job done.

Daicos is averaging 33.4 disposals a game and is priced at 2.50 to produce 35+ against Collingwood.
