AFL: Port must stop the rot

Four of the top eight sides are in action on Sunday, with Port Adelaide versus Greater Western Sydney the pick of the games.

Port Adelaide are on a horror run of form at just the wrong time, and there would be no better time than to stop the rot against the Giants.

It will be far from easy however as GWS are battling to stay in the eight and will also be desperate to get the victory.

Western Bulldogs and St Kilda are in sixth and seventh respectively and are locked on 44 points.

The Bulldogs travel to take on Hawthorn, who caused a huge upset against Collingwood in the last round.

St Kilda are at home to Richmond and are also in need of a lift if they are to hold their place in finals.

Port Adelaide were battling for the minor premiership with Collingwood just a few weeks ago, but four defeats on the bounce have put an end to that.

Now getting back to winning ways and clinching second spot has to be the aim over the remaining games of the regular season, starting against GWS.

The Giants are the complete opposite and before last weekend’s derby defeat against the Swans, had won four games on the bounce.

They now sit in eighth but there is still work to do if they are to stay there. GWS did beat the Crows at the Adelaide Oval a few weeks ago so returning to the venue to face Port will hold no fear.

GWS can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points.

Hawthorn may be in 16th spot on the ladder but they pulled off one of the results of the season when defeating Collingwood by 32 points last weekend.

It was just their sixth win of the season, but as given the Hawks faithful some hope for the future.

Luke Breust booted three goals against the Pies and is priced at 9.00 to kick the first goal of the game.

The result is also a warning for the Bulldogs that they will be in for a tough game in Tasmania on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs pulled off a big win of their own, thrashing Richmond 126-71, and they need to kick on from there if they are to stay in the eight.

Western Bulldogs won by 29 points when the two sides met back in April and would gladly take that again.

St Kilda eyeing strong finish

St Kilda are another team that need to finish well to guarantee their place in finals.

Ross Lyon’s side had won two on the bounce against Hawthorn and North Melbourne to consolidate their spot, only to slip up to Carlton last week.

The Saints have a problem against the teams in and around them on the ladder which does not bode well for finals.

Richmond had been going well after stringing some wins together, but back-to-back defeats against Melbourne and Western Bulldogs have all but ended their top-eight hopes.
