AFL: Port need to stand tall against Giants

Port Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney meet in a do-or-die clash on Saturday, with a preliminary final date against Collingwood the prize for the winner.

Port Adelaide were put to the sword by Brisbane in their qualifying final and are in danger of going out in straight sets against a Giants side who are flying.

GWS were very impressive in their elimination final against St Kilda and, if they reproduce that form again, then the Power could be in trouble.

Port Adelaide have home advantage and a large support on their side, but GWS are full of confidence and will hold no fear.

It is a semi-final clash that could go either way and we look to be in for an exciting clash at the Adelaide Oval.

Port Adelaide are priced at 10.00 to win the grand final, while GWS can be backed at 15.00.

Injury concerns for Port

Port Adelaide will have been disappointed to say the least after losing 123-75 against Brisbane Lions in the qualifying final.

They struggled to cope with a blistering Brisbane attack and could be in for more of the same against a GWS side who also love to attack.

The Power will need to bounce back and they already have injury concerns over one or two players heading into the game.

Dylan Williams and Trent McKenzie are already rated doubtful for the semi-final showdown, while Charlie Dixon will also face a race against time.

Port Adelaide will have the backing of a packed Adelaide Oval and home advantage could turn out to be crucial against the Giants.

They can also take heart from the fact that they beat the Giants by 51 points at the Adelaide Oval on 13th August.

It would be some effort if they could repeat that result and they can be backed at 15.00 to win by 49-60 points.

Despite the loss to the Lions, there were positives for Port to take out of the game. In particular, the performance of Ollie Lord, who was making his finals debut and managed to kick four goals.

Lord can be backed at 13.00 to boot the first goal against the Giants.

GWS on top form

Greater Western Sydney have been flying for some time now and all the signs indicate they are peaking at just the right time.

No-one will fancy playing them in this mood and it is Port Adelaide who will have to come up with a plan to stifle their blistering attack.

Out of all the sides left in finals, they are the least fancied to go all the way, but that means no pressure and makes them a dangerous animal.

The Giants can be backed at 7.00 to reach the grand final and on current form that cannot be ruled out.

GWS have won 10 games out of the last 12, and although one of them was a heavy defeat in Adelaide, they will put that down to having a rare off day.

Indeed the defeat to Port was just the second occasion all season that they had lost by more than 21 points.

GWS can be backed at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points and we could be in for a thriller.

Jake Riccardi impressed when booting three goals in the win over St Kilda, and he can be backed at 13.00 to grab the first goal of the game against Port Adelaide.
