Premier League: Johnson aims to extend scoring run

Tottenham head to the south coast of England to take on Brighton in the Premier League in the early hours of Monday morning looking to extend their winning run to six games in all competitions.

Spurs have a quick turnaround following their UEFA Europa League trip to Hungary on Friday morning, but Ange Postecoglou's side could hardly be in better heart after a superb run of victories.

Their hosts have also started the new season well, but suffered their first loss of the campaign last time out when they were beaten 4-2 at Chelsea.

The Lilywhites have enjoyed the better of recent meetings between the two sides, winning three of the last four, all by a one-goal margin.

Seagulls need to arrest a slide

Brighton began their Premier League campaign with wins over Everton and Manchester United, but have since gone four league games without a win - drawing with Arsenal, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest before going down at Stamford Bridge.

However, Albion are still in the top half of the table ahead of the weekend round of games, with new boss Fabian Hurzeler having made a positive impression since his summer arrival from St Pauli.

The German knows, though, that he and his players has questions to answer after conceding four times inside the first 45 minutes at Chelsea, telling reporters: "It's a priority for us to defend better as a team."

Hurzeler has several injuries to contend with, with Jan Paul van Hecke ruled out by a groin problem and star striker Joao Pedro sidelined with an ankle injury, while Matt O'Riley (ankle) is also a long-term absentee.

On a more positive note, veteran midfielder James Milner has overcome a hamstring injury, while summer singing Brajan Gruda may be ready to make his Albion bow following his summer arrival from Mainz.

Winger Solly March is also in contention to appear for the first time in almost a year, with Albion 4.00 to gain a draw and Carlos Baleba 6.50 to score for the third time in his last four games.

Son set to miss out as Johnson shines

Ridiculously there was some chatter about Postecoglou's position at Spurs after losses to Newcastle United and Arsenal, but any such talk has stopped following a run of five successive victories.

During that time in the Premier League they have seen off Brentford and Manchester United, with Brennan Johnson having enjoyed a prefect run of scoring in every one of the five wins.

The Wales forward has already matched his tally for the whole of last season and his efforts have been particularly well timed, with club captain Son Heung-Min having missed the last two games due to a hamstring problem.

Johnson is 3.25 to find the net at anytime against the Seagulls, while he is 9.00 to score first or last - which he has done twice each across his last five appearances.

The former Forest ace has almost been matched by summer signing Dominic Solanke, who has found the net in three of his last four outings, leaving Postecoglou with plenty of attacking options to choose from.

In defence he hopes to have Destiny Udogie back in the fold after the Italian limped out of the win at Old Trafford and missed the 2-1 midweek European victory at Ferencvaros.

Spurs have dragged themselves up to eight place in the Premier League standings ahead of the weekend action and they are now 1.72 to finish in the top six and 3.75 to secure a top-four spot.
