Premier League: Tottenham can make a flying start at Leicester

After watching the other 18 teams in the English top flight get their seasons underway, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City will get to join the Premier League party in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

With some exciting summer arrivals onboard, there is growing anticipation about what this Spurs side might be able to achieve under their Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.

The former Celtic boss oversaw a strong start to last season and the Aussie tactician will be hoping for the same this term, starting with their trip to newly-promoted Leicester.

. What: Leicester City v Tottenham Hotspur
. Where: King Power Stadium, Leicester
. When: 05:00 (AEST), Tuesday 20th August
. How to watch: Optus Sport
. Odds: Leicester City 5.25, Tottenham Hotspur 1.57

New arrivals pushing for starts

Big summer signings Dominic Solanke and Archie Gray will both be hoping to feature from the off at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday.

Solanke and Gray joined from Bournemouth and Leeds United respectively over the summer and will be raring to go with their new club.

Winning four of their last five games against Leicester, Spurs can look back on a positive recent record in this fixture.

New arrival Solanke is 2.37 to score on his competitive debut for the Lilywhites, who are 1.57 to come away from the East Midlands with the three points.

Skipper Heung-Min Son is available at 5.50 to bag the opening goal of the game, while former Leicester star James Maddison is 3.10 to score anytime against his former employers.

Toothless Foxes could be in for a long night

While Leicester’s overall recent record has been poor against Spurs, the Foxes actually won their last meeting as they cruised to a 4-1 victory at the King Power Stadium.

So much has changed since that game in February last year, with all of Leicester’s goalscorers that day - Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Harvey Barnes - no longer at the club.

At present, a lack of goals looks to be a major concern for Leicester as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Failing to score a single goal in their last three pre-season friendlies against Palermo, Augsburg and Lens, manager Steve Cooper will be desperately seeking answers in the final third.

Given Leicester’s struggles, it’s hard to see the Foxes winning this opening game, something they are outsiders at 5.25 to achieve.

Losing manager Enzo Maresca was a blow to the Championship winners in the build-up to the new campaign.

Cooper does have experience in the Premier League and it will be up to the former Nottingham Forest boss to get the Foxes up to speed as quickly as possible.

They’ve been handed a tough opener against Postecoglou’s side, who themselves will be eager to start the new campaign on the right foot.
