Preview of Sunday's BBL: Quick turnaround counts against Thunder

Another double helping of Big Bash action on Sunday, with the Sydney Thunder on the road to face the Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers making the trip to Sydney to face the Sixers.

The Scorchers and the Sixers entered the weekend occupying the top two berths in the ladder, while Hobart could leapfrog the Sydney Thunder if they come out on top in their clash.

Hobart Hurricanes head into the weekend placed in sixth spot in the Big Bash League table, with four wins and five losses from their nine matches of the league so far.

That leaves them a spot behind the incoming Sydney Thunder, though the visitors have played a game more with five wins and the same amount of losses thus far.

All focus then for the 8/11 To Win Match Hurricanes is on drawing level on points and giving themselves a chance to overtake the Thunder.

The home side will be keen to see Matthew Wade, who is the top run-scorer for Hobart Hurricanes with 168 runs at a strike rate of 151, strutting his stuff on Sunday. He has struck ten sixes and eight fours already and is 4/1 to be Top Batter for his side here.

England's Alex Hales is the top run-scorer for Sydney Thunder with 245 runs at a strike rate of 145 so far in the Big Bash League, impressing with his nine sixes and 24 fours so far. The 34-year-old has, though, been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.

Hales has been replaced by David Warner at the top and he's 13/5 to be Top Batter here. Warner's return to the Big Bash couldn't save the Sydney Thunder from a nine-wicket loss to Perth on Friday.

In his first BBL appearance in more than 3000 days, the big-hitting opener struck it at less than 100 in a 20-ball innings worth 19 as the Thunder were bowled out for 111 at Sydney Showground.

Off the back of that loss in scorching heat, its quick turnaround for Sydney coming into Sunday and they may find the Hurricanes have enough force to tie up their 5-5 record in the Big Bash standings.

An unbeaten 109-run partnership by Jordan Silk and skipper Moises Henriques steered the Sixers to a thumping win over their Harbour City rivals with 22 balls to spare earlier this week and moved them into second spot in the Big Bash standings.

There they remain following Perth's nine-wicket win over the same Thunder outfit on Friday.

The Scorchers, 4/5 To Win Match, come into SCG showdown with an impressive eight wins from ten outings so far and their exceptional run-rate gives them plenty breathing space at the top right now.

The Sixers, with six wins and three losses from ten games, know that this represents a great chance to impose some pressure on the ladder leaders.

With all eyes on David Warner in the Scorchers tussle with the Thunder, it was his former Test opening partner Cameron Bancroft that hit an unbeaten 55 off 40 in the Scorchers' chase as part of a 77-run opening stand with Stephen Eskinazi.

The South African-born Englishman was also explosive in his 40 off 26, making five boundaries in his innings, as well as a brilliant ramp shot for six off Brendan Doggett. Eskinazi can be backed at 15/4 to be Top Batter for the Scorchers in this assignment.

That win moved the Scorchers three points clear of the Sydney Sixers at the top of the BBL|12 ladder with four games to play, and they'll be fully aware that victory at the home of their closest pursuers could go a long way towards cementing that top spot.
