Australian Racing: Promise to be kept at Gosford

There are seven meetings set to take place on Thursday, with Gosford’s Group 3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes the feature race of the day.

Race 6 Gosford

Zoe's Promise @ 4.20

Race 6 Mornington

Ode To Joy @ 4.00

Race 3 Ascot

Sonoftheboss @ 2.20

Belle glory awaits Zoe's Promise

The previously mentioned Group 3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford is set to take place as the sixth race on a seven-race card.

Lekvarte is expected to jump as favourite for the 1600m contest, which is restricted to fillies & mares and is expected to take place on a good 4 track.

Trained by Joseph Pride the mare performed with credit at this level when seventh of 16 in Scone’s Dark Jewel Classic over 1400m back in May.

The five-year-old has been performer at a lower level since registering victories in Benchmark 78 contests over 1400m in her two starts this spell.

The second of those victories saw her finish a length clear of her nearest pursuer in an eight-runner contest held on a soft 5 track at Rosehill at the start of this month.

While she rates highly here, preference is for ZOE'S PROMISE, who finished second to Tommy Berry’s mount when the pair clashed at Newcastle last month.

The 4.20 selection had two concede two-and-a-half kilograms in weight to Lekvarte when beaten less than half-a-length on that occasion and having won since she looks up to reversing that form.

That subsequent victory came when contesting a 1600m Benchmark 78 handicap on a good 4 track at Randwick December 9th.

The four-year-old raced close to the pace prior to winning by just under half-a-length on her first start over this trip this spell and, with a decent barrier, she looks up to saluting under Dylan Gibbons.

Joy expected at Mornington

A good 4 track is expected at Mornington, with the sixth race of the day a 1000m Class 1 handicap contest.

Joint top weight Shaime showed progressive form last season, making all in two of her three starts including when losing out narrowly in a 1200m maiden at Cranbourne just over a year ago.

The filly made amends when racing at Pakenham in January, winning by over a length in a maiden on a good 4 surface over the same distance.

While Cliff Brown has his horses in good form at present, she may find one too good on return to action with preference here for ODE TO JOY, who will jump from next to the rail.

The three-year-old was highly tried at two, having started in Group 3 and Listed company in her two starts following a good third in a six-runner 1000m event at Flemington on debut.

The 4.40 selection has been dropped back to maiden company this spell registering a good two length second when racing close to the speed in an 1100m maiden at Kilmore in September.

The daughter of Written Tycoon has been given a break since going one better on a good 4 track at Kilmore the following month.

The Anthony & Sam Freedman team can boast a 30% strike-rate (10/33) in the last 30 days and their representative here is taken to salute under Daniel Moor.

Boss to salute at Ascot

The third race on the Ascot card is an interesting 1100m handicap contest restricted to three-year-olds and SONOFTHEBOSS, one of only two previous winners in the field, takes the eye for the Jim P Taylor stable.

The pick heads into this contest on the back of a third over 1000m in a race won by unbeaten frontrunner Final Siren.

The 2.20 gelding had previously faded late on when fourth of seven, beaten less than two lengths in a 1200m event here last month, however, he should have no issues with the distance here.

Brayden Gaerth takes the ride for the first time on the Street Boss gelding, who made all the running when impressing in breaking his maiden over 1000m at Northam first up this spell.

The selection has a good barrier three off the rail here and looks up to delivering an all-the-way success.
