Australian Racing: Queens can rule on Sunday

There are nine meetings due to take place on Sunday including at Sunshine Coast who are set to play host to an eight-race card.

Race 6 Sunshine Coast

Queen Of Thoughts @ 2.60

Race 5 Muswellbrook

Ceasefire @ 1.95

Race 7 Balaklava

Connemara Queen @ 6.50

Queen to rule at Sunshine Coast

The sixth race at Sunshine Coast is a 1400m maiden contest with a soft 5 surface expected at the Queensland venue.

The Annabel Neasham-trained Master Rich gained plenty of barrier trial experience including on the inner track here prior to debuting at Beaudesert earlier this month.

That Beaudesert effort saw the gelding finish just under two lengths fourth in a 1200m maiden contest on a soft 6 track on 8th July.

Jag Guthmann-Chester, on board here, took the ride that day and while his mount is expected to appreciate the extra distance he has a wide alley to overcome.

So You Think filly QUEEN OF THOUGHTS delivered two victories in 1000m barrier trials at Doomben prior to making her debut in a 1200m maiden at Ipswich just over two weeks ago.

Trained by Tony Gollan the filly suffered a one length defeat when beaten into fourth having jumped as favourite for that Ipswich contest which took place on a good 4 track.

The selection handled soft tracks in her trials and with the step up in trip in her favour she is taken to break her maiden at the second time of asking with Ben Thompson up for the first time.

Ceasefire for Cup success

The feature race on the Muswellbrook card is the 1280m Bengalla Cup set to take place as the fifth race of the day.

Memories returned from a spell with a victory in an 1158m handicap at Dubbo and is expected to have her supporters following that win at Benchmark 58 level.

That success came on a soft 6 track and she should have no issues with similar going forecast ahead of this contest.

Clayton Gallagher’s mount has yet to race at this venue but arrives here in good form however CEASEFIRE is selected to register a victory on this occasion.

Trained by Paul Messara the pick has shown good form at metro level in recent starts including when beaten less than a length over 1300m in a Benchmark 72 event on 5th July.

The gelding raced at Randwick Kensington on that occasion having earlier lost out by a narrow margin in the 1280m Aberdeen Cup over this course and distance a month earlier.

Aaron Bullock’s mount is a versatile type tactics wise and having shown a liking for this course and distance and forecast going in the past he is taken to deliver a fifth win in 20 career starts.

Connemara for Balaklava success

The penultimate race on the Balaklava card plays host to our third selection of the day.

The race concerned is a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

The Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea team are in great form at present with a 39% strike-rate (7/18) in the last 30 days.

They are represented by CONNEMARA QUEEN here with the three-year-old less exposed than her 12 rivals.

The filly, the winner of two of her six starts to date, registered her second victory when successful by half-a-length in a Class 2 handicap over 1300m at Bordertown earlier this month.

The application of blinkers appeared to help on that occasion and they are retained for this contest.

The daughter of Deep Field was ridden from off the pace on a soft 6 track on that occasion and similar tactics are expected on this occasion.
