NRL: Rabbitohs set for must-win Tigers clash

South Sydney Rabbitohs have work to do to make the top eight and only a victory against struggling Wests Tigers on Friday will aid their cause.

The NRL ladder and the race to play finals is tight and, with just five games of the regular season remaining, the Rabbitohs need to hit form.

Their run-in for the rest of the season looks to be a good one, but they have been slipping up against teams below them on the ladder, and that has to stop.

Wests Tigers face a different battle, one to avoid the wooden spoon, and they will be out to cause an upset in Tamworth.

Tigers need a miracle

Wests Tigers have won just three games all season and have lost the last seven on the bounce to leave them sat rock-bottom of the NRL ladder.

They are four points behind the Canterbury Bulldogs and unless they can pull off a run of shock results, they are set to pick up their second consecutive wooden spoon.

That will be a huge kick in the teeth for everyone involved with the club, as hopes were high at the start of the season with the appointment of a new coaching team.

However, nothing has changed and unless they can knock over some of the best teams in the NRL over the next few weeks, they are set for another wooden spoon.

After the clash with the Rabbitohs, they have games against the Raiders and Warriors, who are both pushing for the top four.

The Tigers are taking their home game to Scully Park in Tamworth and will be hoping for a different outcome from last year when they lost 36-12 against the Sharks.

They have conceded 30 tries in their last four games, so it is clear to see where they need to improve on Friday night.

Luke Brooks has not played since round 15 due to a hamstring injury and the Tigers will be hoping his return to the side can spur them on to victory.

If the Tigers are to do it, it will be tight, and they can be backed at 17.00 to win by 1-5 points.

Mitchell back for Bunnies

South Sydney also need to raise their game after losing four out of the last five.

They have conceded 145 points in the process and need to see a big improvement if they are to make the top eight.

They are handed a massive boost with the news that gun fullback Latrell Mitchell is set to make his long-awaited return from a calf injury.

Mitchell is a game-changer and can be backed at 2.05 to mark his return to the side with a try at anytime. He needs just two more to reach the milestone of 100 tries in the NRL.

The Rabbitohs have won six of the last seven games against Wests Tigers and nothing less than another win will do.

They are priced at 1.10 to make the top eight but cannot afford any more slip ups.
