Australian Racing: Razeta ready for Guineas glory

It's a relatively quiet Saturday for feature races, however there is Group action from both Hawkesbury and Morphettville to look forward to.

Artist can float to Cup success

The 1600m Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup has attracted a large field with FLOATING ARTIST and Just Folk set to carry top weight following the scratchings of Skyman and Yonkers.

Floating Artist enjoyed a good time of it in 2021, placing in three consecutive Group races culminating in a good fourth place finish at the top level in the Melbourne Cup in early November.

The son of Nathaniel got in off a low weight on that occasion, but was absent for well over 14 months following that effort.

The pick's sole subsequent start came when dropped to Benchmark 100 level for a race at Bendigo at the start of this month.

That appearance saw the seven-year-old deliver fourth place, beaten just under three-quarters-of-a-length over 1400m on a soft 5 surface.

The step up to 1600m is a positive here and he is a previous winner over this distance, having scored at Moonee Valley in August 2021.

Trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace he is expected to strip fitter for that Bendigo effort and is taken to deliver a second up victory.

Razeta looking good for Guineas

The Maher & Eustace team look to hold strong claims in the first of the three Hawkesbury Group races, the 1400m Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas.

The pair are represented by The Fortune Teller, who has to concede weight to all of his rivals with top hoop James McDonald in the saddle.

The son of Caravaggio got up in the dying strides to deliver a win at this level when taking the 1600m Carbine Club Stakes on a heavy 8 track at Randwick at the start of the month.

Given how well he saw out the trip that day, a drop back in trip wouldn’t seem the most obvious option and, while he’s effective at this distance, he has a wide alley to overcome here.

The concession of weight to the filly RAZETA may prove too much here, with Kris Lees’ daughter of Deep Field preferred on this occasion.

The pick acquitted herself well without really challenging for the win when contesting three Group races at Randwick and Flemington earlier this spell.

Those efforts included a tenth, beaten just over three lengths in the Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Randwick three starts back.

A drop in grade saw the selection break through for a comfortable success in the South Pacific Classic over 1400m on a heavy 8 surface at Randwick two weeks ago, however.

The pick handles good and soft going and, while any softening of the track would aid her chances, she looks capable of delivering a fourth career win.

Kallos aims to complete treble

The R N Irwin Stakes, a Group 3 contest over 1100m is the feature race on the Morphettville Parks card.

The 1100m contest is set to take place on a soft 5 track, with KALLOS selected to complete a hat-trick.

The winner of both of his starts this spell, the son of Medaglia d’Oro crosses the border here following two wins down the straight at Flemington.

The second of those saw the four-year-old deliver a victory on a good 4 track in the ATA/Bob Hoysted Handicap on a good 4 track just under a month ago.

That form is working out well, with the fourth and fifth home both delivering victories subsequently.

The selection's rider on that occasion, Ben Melham, is again in the saddle here and, while the pair have to overcome a wide barrier, they look capable of doing just that to complete a hat-trick of wins.
