Australian Racing: Rich Again chasing Sunshine Coast success

There are six meetings set to take place on Sunday with Sale and Northam both set to stage their Cup races.

Race 7 Northam

Casino Seventeen @ 3.60

Race 7 Sale

Rubamos @ 3.60

Race 5 Sunshine Coast

Rich Again @ 4.20

Casino to score

The Northam Cup, a Listed event over 1600m, is set to be held as the penultimate race on an eight-race card at the Western Australia track.

A good 4 track is expected, with Daniel Morton’s Another Chino sure to have his supporters, following a seventh over 1400m in a Benchmark 78+ handicap at Ascot when racing first up.

The four-year-old showed his best form over further last season, including when a length second in the 2400m Group 2 W.A.T.C Derby on a good 4 track at Ascot in April.

While the step up in distance second up is a positive here, CASINO SEVENTEEN is preferred for the Grant & Alana Williams team.

The six-year-old showed good form when winning the Listed Pinjarra Cup over 2300m at Pinjarra when last in action back in April.

The gelding was registering his fourth win of the year that day and, while none of those victories came over 1600m, he has performed well over shorter in the past.

The son of Casino Prince should be sharp for his return to action, having registered three barrier trials at Lark Hill in the last six weeks, while forecast underfoot conditions are in his favour.

The pick is often ridden from off the pace and, with that in mind, barrier 10 should prove no issues here and William Pike looks capable of steering the selection to victory.

Rubamos for Sale success

The Sale Cup comes up as the seventh race of nine, with the 1600m Listed handicap attracting a field of nine runners.

Maktoob is expected to jump as favourite following a victory over 1700m in a Benchmark 80m handicap at Caulfield earlier this month.

Trained by Simon Zahra, the gelding had previously shown good form when finishing strongly from off the pace in a Benchmark 78 handicap over 1630m at Flemington last month.

Chris Waller’s RUBAMOS is improving with racing this spell however and is the selection to take this competitive looking event.

The pick returned to action with a solid fifth when jumping at odds of $31 for a 1200m Benchmark 94 handicap at Randwick at the end of last month.

The pick was beaten less than three lengths that day and took a step forward in finishing a length third in the 1400m Weekend Hussler, a Listed handicap at Caulfield subsequently.

Both of those efforts came on a good 4 track, however he should have no issue with the softer conditions forecast here, having performed well on a soft 5 track at Doomben last December.

Craig Williams takes the ride for the first time and looks up to recording a victory aboard the son of I Am Invincible.

Rich for Sunshine Coast glory

The fifth race at Sunshine Coast is an interesting 1400m maiden handicap event with RICH AGAIN taken to get the better of expected favourite Suite Secret.

The selection has performed well in two of his four starts to date and, while he disappointed when last of 10 over 1210m at Lismore first up this spell, he took a step forward last time.

That latest effort saw the three-year-old overcome an awkward start to finish strongly for second having raced from off the pace.

Trained by Chris Munce, the good 4 track is in the gelding’s favour here and, with the extra 50m here looking likely to suit, he is taken to salute under Robbie Dolan.
