Premier League: Richarlison set a stiff goals target

Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min has challenged team-mate Richarilson to continue his recent fine form in front of goal and prove that he can be a regular starter in attack for Ange Postecoglou's side.

The 26-year-old Brazilian registered just one Premier League goal in his first full season for Spurs following his arrival from Everton in July 2022 and found the net only once in his first 12 league games this season.

However, he has since netted four times in his last three English top-flight outings and appears to finally be showing the qualities which made him a big hit during his four seasons on Merseyside.

The South American will be eager to keep up the good work when the Lilywhites head to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton in the early hours of Friday morning.

Son challenges Richarlison to maintain form

Richarlison began his recent impressive form in front of goal in the home win over Newcastle United, netting twice as the Magpies were swept away 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Brazilian forward then set Spurs on their way to a 2-0 victory at Nottingham Forest with the opening goal on the stroke of half-time, before breaking the deadlock just nine minutes into the 2-1 home win over Everton.

That run of form has clearly impressed Son, who was on the scoresheet himself in two of those three successes.

Son told reporters: "Everybody is very happy for him and very pleased. Richi has to know that he has to score more goals.

"He needs to score more than 15 goals to be striker. Richi is the type of guy who will want to score more and I hope he continues to so he can help the team."

That recent run of four goals in three league games is in stark contrast to him having netted twice in his previous 39 Premier League outings for Spurs.

And he is likely to be full of confidence when he faces an Albion side who are on a club record run of 22 successive league games without keeping a clean sheet,

Team News

Key Spurs defender Cristian Romero has been ruled out for "four or five weeks" due to a hamstring injury in a major blow for Postecoglou.

Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Manor Solomon, Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon all remain sidelined.

Richarlison himself was forced off during the 2-1 win over his former club Everton due to a back problem, but he is expected to be ready to feature against the Seagulls.

Spurs will be able to welcome back Destiny Udogie after a ban, but midfielder Yves Bissouma is ruled out as he begins a four-match suspension.

Albion, meanwhile, are set to be without winger Kaoru Mitoma due to an ankle problem, but striker Danny Welbeck may be ready to start after two appearances off the bench.
