NRL: Roosters in last-chance saloon

Sydney Roosters are in the last-chance saloon as far as their finals hopes are concerned and they desperately need a win against Manly Sea Eagles.

There are just five rounds of the season remaining and both the Roosters and Sea Eagles sit outside of the top eight.

Manly are in a stronger position and if they can pick up the win they will boost their chances further, and at the same time put another nail in the Roosters coffin.

We are set for a bumper round of action in the NRL, and there is no better place to start than at the SCG on Friday night.

The game is huge for both sides and there should be no holding back.

Roosters face must-win clash

The Roosters were the hot fancies to topple the Penrith Panthers and win the premiership this season, but as things stand they would just be happy to make finals.

There are five games remaining of the regular season, and after picking up just eight wins this season, Trent Robinson men sit in 14th spot on the ladder.

The Bondi outfit are four points away from the top eight and they probably need to win four of their remaining five games to have a chance.

With games against the Eels, Rabbitohs, Dolphins and Tigers to follow the Sea Eagles clash, they have a chance, but there will need to be a big improvement in form.

They suffered a 22-point defeat against the Broncos last week, but beat the Titans by 18 the week before, and need more of the same.

The Roosters do have a good record against the Sea Eagles after winning six of the last eight against them and need to keep that run going.

They will have to do it without Egan Butcher however after he suffered a concussion in the loss to the Broncos.

Sea Eagles flying high

Manly Sea Eagles will go into the game on a high after knocking over the Dragons 24-18 last start, while they have won three of the last four games.

They sit just one point outside of the top eight and could jump into it if they win and other results go their way.

These two sides have already met once this season, at 4 Pines Park, with Manly winning 18-16.

It could be close again and Manly are priced at 7.00 to win by 1-5 points.

They have not picked up back-to-back wins over the Roosters since 2017 but this could be their big chance to do it.

Daly Cherry-Evans loves playing against the Roosters, with the Manly skipper scoring four tries in the last four games against them.

After just making his 300th NRL appearance, Cherry-Evans is showing no signs of slowing down and will be key to Manly’s chances.

The Sea Eagles are priced at 67.00 to go on and make the grand final this season, but first of all they have to make the eight.
