NRL: Roosters to hit back after Panthers loss

Sydney Roosters take on Canterbury Bulldogs on Friday night, looking to bounce back from a defeat against Penrith Panthers.

The Roosters’ premiership credentials took a knock as the Panthers beat them by six points and they are now priced at 8.00 to win the grand final.

They will look to get back on track by beating a Bulldogs side that lost by four points to South Sydney Rabbitohs over the Easter weekend.

In the other game on Friday, Newcastle Knights and St George/Illawarra Dragons clash at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Dragons head into the game on the back of an impressive win over Manly Sea Eagles, but the Knights slipped up again.

Newcastle have won just one game out of four and are 3.00 to make the top eight.

They are in desperate need of a home win and the atmosphere will be hot on Friday night.

Addo-Carr absent for Bulldogs

. What: Canterbury Bulldogs v Sydney Roosters
. Where: Accor Stadium, Sydney
. When: 18:00, Friday 5th April 2024
. How to watch: Foxtel, Kayo
. Odds: Canterbury Bulldogs
3.50, Sydney Roosters 1.31

The Bulldogs lost by just four points against the Rabbitohs and their confidence should still be intact when they take on the Roosters.

They will, however, be missing flying winger Josh Addo-Carr through concussion, while Jacob Preston will be out for weeks with a fractured jaw.

Their record at Accor Stadium is not great, winning just two of the past eight games at the venue, but they do have Viliame Kikau.

The second-rower has five tries in the last seven games against the Roosters and is priced at 4.50 to score at anytime.

The Roosters have won nine of the last 10 games against the Bulldogs, but last season they won by just one point.

If it is to be a tight game once again, the Roosters are 6.50 to win by 1-5 points.

Knights need to use home advantage

. What: Newcastle Knights v St George/Illawarra Dragons
. Where: McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
. When: 20:00, Friday 5th April 2024
. How to watch: Foxtel, Kayo, Channel 9
. Odds: Newcastle Knights
1.45, St George/Illawarra Dragons 2.75

Newcastle slipped to their third defeat out of four games when losing by eight points against the New Zealand Warriors in their last match.

They can take heart from the fact they stayed in the game until the final moments but will need to recover quickly from Sunday’s game.

The Knights have a good record at home by winning seven of the last eight games, but the Dragons are a bit of a bogey side.

Newcastle have only beaten the Dragons in two of the last seven games at McDonald Jones Stadium, but they can be backed at 6.00 to edge this latest encounter by 6-10 points.

The Dragons are on a high after beating the Sea Eagles, and in Tyrell Sloan they have a man bang in form.

The fullback has scored six tries in his last four games and is priced at 15.00 to score the first of the game on Friday night.
