NRL: Rugby League heads to Perth

The NRL will head to Western Australia for a double-header at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Saturday, while the Cowboys and Broncos are also involved in a big derby clash.

As things stand there is no NRL team based in Perth, meaning the locals are starved of top quality rugby league action on a regular basis.

So it is no surprise that the 60,000 capacity Optus Stadium will be packed to see the Dolphins take on Newcastle Knights and South Sydney Rabbitohs play Cronulla Sharks.

With the exception of the Dolphins, all teams in action still have a good chance of playing finals, so there is all to play for in the west.

But arguably the game of the day will take place in Townsville when second-placed Brisbane take on the Cowboys, who sit in eighth.

There are just five games of the regular season remaining and the Broncos find themselves in with a great chance of winning the minor premiership.

It is something they have not managed to achieve since 2000 and it looks like only the Penrith Panthers stand in their way as they look to break the drought.

Brisbane have won seven of the last eight games and they will need to keep the wins coming if they are to topple Penrith.

The Broncos are scoring points for fun, amassing 144 in the last four games, but the last time these two sides met at the start of the season Brisbane won by just 12 points.

They can be backed at 8.00 to win by 11-15 points on this occasion.

The Cowboys had been going great guns when winning six games on the bounce before losing by nine points against the Titans last week and will be keen to bounce back.

Dolphins eye strong finish

The Dolphins' chances of playing finals in their debut season now look slim as they sit four points behind the eight with the games fast running out.

However, they will be keen to finish the season strongly and not undo all the hard work they did earlier in the season when they knocked off some big hitters.

The Dolphins have not performed well outside of Queensland this season, winning just once, but coach Wayne Bennett has won two from two in Perth.

Winger Jamayne Isaako will be key for the Dolphins having scored eight tries in the past nine games, and he is priced at 1.91 to score at Anytime on Saturday.

Newcastle also have a winger in top form as Dominic Young needs one more try to make it 21 for the season, which would equal a club record. He is priced at 7.00 to grab the first try of the night.

The Knights have won the last five games on the bounce, but there is still work for them to do to jump from ninth and into the eight.

Sharks need to bite back

Cronulla have hit a bad run of form at just the wrong time when losing the last three games on the bounce.

They sit seventh on the ladder and are holding on to a finals spot by the skin off their teeth. The Sharks have not been helped by injuries, but at least this week they are boosted by the return of star winger Ronaldo Mulitalo.

Defence has been an issue for Cronulla, conceding 102 points in the last three matches, and that is something the Rabbitohs will look to exploit.

The Rabbitohs are just one place above the Sharks and have also struggled, winning just two out of their last five games.

However, they are now back to full strength and with gun fullback Latrell Mitchell also fit, they are ready to finish the season strong.

The bunnies are priced at 7.00 to win by 16-20 points.
