New Zealand Warriors v Sydney Roosters: NRL Friday Preview

New Zealand Warriors and Sydney Roosters will both be out to build on impressive Round 2 victories, when they face off on Friday night.

Both teams got the 2025 NRL season off to a poor start in Round 1, but came bouncing back the week after to get their campaigns up and running.

The Roosters pulled off the shock of the round when beating the Penrith Panthers, while the Warriors also pulled off an upset, beating the Sea Eagles.

Confidence should be high in both camps heading into the game, and whoever wins, will take the feel-good factor to another level.

Sydney Roosters have won the last two meetings, including their last trip to Auckland, so the Warriors will be out for revenge.

It is a tough game to call, but as per usual in the NRL, excitement is guaranteed.

Warriors bounce back in style

The Warriors were disappointing as they slipped to a 30-8 defeat against the Canberra Raiders in Round 1.

However that performance was soon forgotten as they bounced back in style to beat Manly Sea Eagles 36-16 at the weekend.

It was a massive win for the Warriors, who ran in six tries with six different try-scorers, at Go Media Stadium.

Luke Metcalf was one of them, while he also did his job with the boot when kicking all six conversions.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was also on the scoresheet with a try, and the star winger is sure to be a big threat once again on Friday.

To beat a quality side like Manly by 20 points will give them a big lift, and they will be out to do the same to the Roosters.

They can be backed at 3.60 to win by 13+ points, or 3.25 to win by 1-12 points.

Roosters upset Panthers

Like the Warriors, the Roosters pulled off an upset, but this one was arguably bigger as they knocked over reigning premiers Penrith.

After losing 50-14 against Brisbane Broncos in Round 1, no-one gave Trent Robinson’s side a hope against the Panthers.

However they showed great character and skill to pull off a shock 38-32 away win at CommBank Stadium.

The Roosters may be missing key players, but they showed they still have enough quality to get the job done.

Daniel Tupou and Connor Watson both helped themselves to two tries, while winger Dominic Young also continued his prolific streak with another.

Sandon Smith was deadly when kicking five out of seven conversion attempts and will be key once again alongside Chad Townsend in the halves.

The last time the Roosters headed to Go Media Stadium they won 14-0 and can be backed at 4.33 to win by 13+ points once again.

It just depends on which Roosters side turns up.
