Newcastle Knights v Sydney Roosters: NRL Saturday preview

Sydney Roosters will be missing five players due to State Of Origin when they make the trip on Saturday to take on Newcastle Knights.

The Roosters have been in good form, winning three out of the last five games, but their depth will be tested once again this weekend.

Coach Trent Robinson will be confident of putting out a side capable of getting the job done, and another tight battle looks to be on the cards.

The Knights have also be effected by Origin, with Kalyn Ponga on duty with Queenslands.

Newcastle will be on a high after fighting back to beat Manly last week, and another two points will be the order of the day.

Knights missing Ponga

The Knights will be missing the influential Kalyn Ponga as they aim to go back-to-back in the NRL against the Roosters.

They have also been hit by an injury to Fletcher Sharpe, so Fletcher Hunt will play fullback, with Jackson Hastings making his first appearance this season in the halves.

Newcastle will be on a high after beating the Sea Eagles, and now they have to reverse a poor home record against the Roosters.

They have not beaten them at McDonald Jones Stadium since 2019 and need to break the drought.

The Knights can be backed at 4.50 to win by 1-12 points or 8.50 to pull off a real upset and win by 13+.

James Schiller is going well at McDonald Jones, scoring five tries in the last six games at the venue.

He can be backed at 2.65 to grab another at anytime.

Roosters missing key men

The Roosters will be missing Angus Crichton, Spencer Leniu, Connor Watson, Lindsay Collins and Robert Toia as they play State Of Origin.

However they are boosted by the return of Sam Walker, and have a number of players who can step in and fill the void.

The Roosters have a great record against the Knights, winning 17 of the last 20 games against them.

The last two victories at McDonald Jones Stadium have been by just two points, and they are 3.10 to win by 1-12 on this occasion.

Overall they have won 17 from 23 games at the venue, so it will hold no fear for the Roosters.

Daniel Tupou also has 13 tries in his last 14 games against the Knights, and is 6.50 to score the first of the game on Saturday.
