Rabbitohs v Dolphins: NRL Friday Preview

CommBank Stadium will take centre stage on Friday night for the rearranged NRL clash between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Dolphins.

With Cyclone Alfred set to hit south-east Queensland, it was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Friday’s game would be switched to CommBank Stadium, therefore making this a home opener for the Rabbitohs.

In a game that sees Wayne Bennett begin his second spell with the Rabbitohs and come up against his former protege Kristian Woolf, there will be plenty of intrigue in store at CommBank Stadium on Friday night.

Tough start for South Sydney Rabbitohs

Bennett has hardly enjoyed the most ideal of returns to the Rabbitohs, with a handful of issues out of his control being flung the way of the experienced head coach.

Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray picked up hamstring and achilles injuries respectively in training, while highly-rated English signing Lewis Dodd will have to wait for his Rabbitohs’ NRL debut after picking up a suspension.

Bennett has a wealth of experience to call upon to get through this mini crisis at the start of the season and he will need other players to step up and impress against the Dolphins.

Former Manly Sea Eagles star Jamie Humphreys will try to catch the eye of Bennett in this opening game in the halves, where he will be partnered by Cody Walker.

Walker requires one try to reach the landmark of 100 in the NRL and he’s available at 3.50 in the anytime tryscorer market on Friday night.

A difficult time for the Dolphins

While Bennett has been dealing with issues out of his control, so has Woolf and the Dolphins, with Friday’s game being moved away from Brisbane due to the Cyclone Alfred.

Five-eighth Kodi Nikorima, prop Mark Nicholls and 18th man Kenny Bromwich have taken the decision to stay in Brisbane to remain with their families, meaning the Dolphins do have some absentees going into this one.

Looking to get one over on their former head coach Bennett who was at the club last season, the Dolphins are 2.00 to cause an upset at CommBank Stadium.
