Brumbies v Waratahs: Super Rugby Saturday Preview

GIO Stadium has certainly not been a happy hunting ground for the Waratahs over recent years but that’s something the Sydney outfit will look to remedy when they head to Canberra to face the Brumbies on Saturday.

The Tahs have been on the wrong end of the scoreline in all of their last seven visits to GIO Stadium in Super Rugby Pacific, while the Brumbies managed to score 40+ points in all of those games in the capital.

However, after winning their last encounter 28-23 against the Brumbies in Sydney, the Waratahs will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins against their Aussie rivals and finally end a miserable run of results at GIO Stadium.

Fresh Tahs ready for capital test

Having a much-needed bye week during Round 11, the Tahs should be well-rested for their trip to the capital this weekend.

The Waratahs will be itching to get back on the field as it was 19th April the last time they played and that ended in a disappointing 28-14 defeat on the road at Fijian Drua.

Each of the Tahs’ last nine Super Rugby Pacific games have been won by the home team on the day, meaning this side have been somewhat Jekyll and Hyde depending on whether they are playing at Allianz Stadium or not.

Dan McKeller’s side could use a long-awaited win at the Brumbies to keep them in touching distance of the top six and the Waratahs are 3.60 underdogs to get the win on Saturday.

Brumbies need response after Hurricanes defeat

Losing 35-29 at home to the Hurricanes last time out, the Brumbies will be determined to get back in the saddle at the first time of asking and put on a show for their fans this weekend.

As mentioned, the Brumbies tend to be in free-scoring form when they face the Waratahs, while they will also be looking for revenge after that surprising defeat to the Tahs in Sydney back in March.

Stephen Larkham’s side know how to get it done against the Waratahs in Sydney and it’s little wonder why they are the 1.30 favourites to claim the victory on Saturday in the capital.
