Crusaders v Chiefs: Super Rugby final preview

Having finished the regular season as the top two teams on the ladder, it seems only fitting that it will be the Crusaders who take on the Chiefs on Saturday in the Super Rugby Pacific Grand Final.

The Crusaders will be the ones with home advantage at the Apollo Projects Stadium in Christchurch following their hard-fought 21-14 win over the Blues in the semi-finals.

It was a more comfortable victory for the Chiefs in their semi-final in Hamilton, as they ultimately proved too strong for the Brumbies with a 37-17 win last weekend.

Now all eyes are on Christchurch on Saturday to see which of these Kiwi sides will be crowned the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific champions.

It’s been a dramatic turnaround at Apollo Projects Stadium for the Crusaders after what was a transitional year for the Christchurch outfit in 2024.

Winning just four of their 14 games last season and missing out on the finals, the Crusaders had a campaign to forget but they have shown their true colours this year.

Back to their brutal best, the Crusaders are the slight favourites at 1.90 to claim the victory in the 90 minutes on Saturday.

Scoring 550 points in their 14 games of the regular season, it’s been another impressive campaign from the Chiefs.

Bagging 75 tries during those first 14 outings, the Hamilton outfit are blessed with one of the best attacking lineups in the competition, with fly-half Damian McKenzie scoring 207 points in his 13 regular season games.

The Chiefs will be out for revenge on Saturday having lost both their previous grand final meetings with the Crusaders in 2021 and 2023.

Winning five of their last seven games against the men from Christchurch, the Chiefs know what it takes to beat the Crusaders but doing it in a grand final is a different matter.

The Chiefs are the slight underdogs at 1.95, while a tie after 80 minutes between these evenly matched sides is 19.00.
