Aussie Rules: Saints and Lions clash in blockbuster

St Kilda and Brisbane Lions will go head-to-head in a blockbuster clash at Marvel Stadium with both sides pushing for a place in the top four.

Port Adelaide and Collingwood are clear at the top, but it is very tight below them and both the Saints and Lions are right in the mix.

It is Brisbane that currently occupy fourth spot on the ladder but St Kilda are just one place and four points behind them.

A win for St Kilda will see them go level with their opponents, while the Lions could pull clear with a victory.

It is a massive clash for both sides under the lights at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. and is arguably the pick of week 15 matches.

Saints struggle for consistency

You have to go back to the start of May to find the last time that St Kilda strung back-to-back wins together. Indeed they won three on the bounce but have been up and down since then.

Ross Lyon’s side win one week and then lose the next and the lack of consistency is hampering their chances of making the top four.

At the start of the season finals would have been viewed as a success, but following a very strong start to the campaign, expectations have been raised.

St Kilda slipped to a 20-point loss against a reinvigorated Richmond Tigers side last week, but did win away at Sydney Swans the week before.

They have an 8-5 record for the season but they did win the opening four games of the season, which had some suggesting they could be premiership contenders.

The Saints now need to steady the ship and start stringing wins together if they are to have any chance of making the top four and then challenging for the flag.

A number of St Kilda’s games have been tight this season and they can be backed at 6.50 to win by 13-24 points on Friday night.

Lions back to winning ways

Brisbane Lions bounced back from a couple of defeats with a 16-point home win against Sydney Swans last week and they now need another against St Kilda.

Back-to-back defeats against Adelaide and Hawthorn resulted in them losing ground on the top two and they are a massive 12 points behind leaders Port Adelaide.

There is still a long way to go but locking a place in the top four has to be an immediate aim and a win at Marvel Stadium would go a long way towards helping them do that.

Brisbane are a formidable outfit on home soil at the Gabba, but their form away from home is not too shabby either.

They have picked up recent wins against GWS and Carlton, with the latter game being played at Marvel Stadium, so that could be a good sign for Chris Fagan’s side.

Brisbane have won the last two games against St Kilda, including a 15-point victory at the Gabba in August of last year.

Charlie Cameron continues to be a huge threat having already booted 34 goals this season and he is priced at 1.07 to score at Anytime during the game against St Kilda.
