Aussie Rules: Saints set to respond against Giants

St Kilda need to get their season back on track when they take on Greater Western Sydney at Giants Stadium on Sunday.

Ross Lyon’s men got the season off to a flyer when sweeping aside all that was put before them, but they have lost two out of the last three games to slip down the ladder.

They remain well in the mix for a top-four finish, maybe even better, but will need to pick up a win over a Giants side that has just three wins this season.

Greater Western Sydney have won one in the last four and also need to get a move on if they are to keep alive their slim hopes of making the top eight and playing finals.

It is the last game of the round and both sides will have a good idea of where a win would take them on the ladder.

For St Kilda they could move into the top four, but the Giants are battling for their lives and will not be ready to roll over.

Greene boost for Giants

The Giants look set to be in for another tough season after picking up just three wins in the opening nine rounds of the campaign.

They got the season off to a great start with a win over Adelaide in round one, but have struggled since and sit way off the pace in the race to make the top eight.

GWS have also beaten Hawthorn this season and showed their mettle when edging out Sydney 107-106 in a thriller at the SCG in round seven.

However, they have been unable to kick on from that result and lost the next two games to Western Bulldogs and Collingwood.

Collingwood beat them by 65 points last Sunday and now they need to pick themselves up and get ready to go against a St Kilda side that have been on top form this season.

Their record against St Kilda is not great either. They have lost the last two games and both of them were on home turf.

There was not much to separate the two sides with St Kilda winning by 17 points last season and eight the season before and Saints can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points in the latest encounter.

There is some good news for the Giants though as they welcome back star forward and influential captain Toby Greene.

Greene has booted 20 goals so far this season and is priced at 1.17 to score at anytime against the Saints.

Saints search for consistency

St Kilda have been struggling to string back-to-back wins together in recent weeks - it has been a case of win one and lose one.

If that sequence continues, then St Kilda will return to winning way against GWS, but the defeat against Adelaide last week was alarming to say the least and very out of character.

For the first time this season they conceded over 100 points, as the Crows smashed them 121-69 and they will be determined to bounce back.

Lyon’s sides are built around a strong defence, but all that went out of the window against the Crows.

Even though they slipped to defeats against Collingwood and Port Adelaide, there was only six points and seven points difference.

St Kilda now need to rediscover the form that saw them win the opening four games of the campaign and, with games against GWS, Hawthorn, Richmond and Sydney to come, they have a great chance to do just that.

Saints also receive a huge boost with Max King set to return to the side and he can be backed at 9.00 to boot the first goal or 1.15 to score anytime.
