Sasqualah looks good at Casterton

The sixth race of the day as Casterton is a 1200m Benchmark 70 handicap expected to take place on a soft 5 track.

Lang Park is expected to prove popular having demonstrated good form in his last prep racing.

The four-year-old won at metro level when racing over 1300m in a Benchmark 64 handicap on the Hillside track at Sandown in January.

Patrick Payne’s gelding came close to following up when a close second in a Benchmark 70 handicap over the same track and trip a week later.

The son of Flying Artie was spelled following a below-par effort at the end of January and is expected to have improved for his seventh in a similar race to this at Cranbourne.

Linda Meech’s mount SASQUALAH is preferred on this occasion, however, having registered her two best efforts on wet tracks.

Those two efforts include an impressive debut success when triumphing by over three-and-a-half-lengths over this distance at Warrnambool in May last year.

Symon Wilde’s filly has gone well fresh having placed second over 1100m at Bendigo in October when racing first up subsequently.

While the 3.50 selection failed to shine when seventh at Moonee Valley later that month it’s of note that she raced in a Benchmark 80 handicap that day.

The pick came close to recording her second win when runner-up in a big field 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap at Warrnambool at the end of last month.

A wide barrier is a slight concern, however she remains open to improvement and is selected to record the second win of her career.

Toretto to take Cup victory

It’s Cup Day at Parkes, with the big race coming up as the penultimate contest on an eight-race card.

The 1600m open handicap has attracted a field of fifteen including likely favourite Listen To The Band.

Trained by Clint Lundholm, the veteran has won at this venue is lightly raced for one his age with just 12 starts to his name.

The nine-year-old won four times last year, including in a 1000m Benchmark 58 handicap at this track in January of that year.

While it’s over a year since his last run, he has been competing in highly competitive contests this prep including the Wagga Town Plate on 2nd May.

The gelding came home eighth of 16 that day and holds obvious claims if handling the step up in distance.

TORETTO has demonstrated improvement with racing this prep resuming with a ninth over 1175m in a handicap at Albury in March.

The 3.60 selection jumped at odds of $26 on that occasion and took a step forward when fifth in a 1200m handicap on a soft 6 track at Canberra last month.

Trained by Matthew Dale the six-year-old has been freshened since delivering a second stepped up to 1400m back at Canberra a week later.

Nick Heywood’s mount has performed well over further in the past and is a confirmed stayer having won over 1800m at Wagga in April last year.

The son of Press Statement has an inside barrier here and looks capable of registering a victory here.

Unit to shine at Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast play host to an eight-race card, with LOOSE UNIT taking the eye in the 1600m Class 2 handicap.

Trained by Stuart Kendrick, the gelding is a regular at his home track with eight of his last nine starts coming at this venue.

Those efforts including second-place finishes in his first two starts this prep, including when narrowly beaten over 1400m in a Class 1 handicap on his penultimate start.

The 3.20 selection raced on a heavy 8 track that day and should be suited by the underfoot conditions here.

The son of Shalaa acquitted himself well over the same distance when fourth in a Class 1 handicap at Eagle Farm earlier this month and looks up to saluting here.
