NRL: Season on the line for Sharks and Roosters

Cronulla Sharks and Sydney Roosters go head-to-head in a do-or-die clash at Endeavour Field on Saturday, when there will be no second chances.

The Roosters are breathing a huge sigh of relief after scraping into finals and it could be just the springboard they need to go all the way.

They were one of the hot fancies to win the premiership at the start of the season, but struggled throughout the campaign and only came good towards the end.

Cronulla have been in the top eight for the whole season and have never looked in danger of slipping out, but now it is the business end of the season, do they have what it takes to go deep into finals?

After missing out on the top four, one of these sides will see their season come to an end on Saturday. The other will move a step closer to a preliminary final showdown.

Sharks hoping for home comforts

Cronulla should be feeling good heading into finals after finishing the regular season with four wins out of six to take them to sixth on the ladder.

The 24-6 win over the Canberra Raiders in the last game was just what they needed and will have sharpened them up for the Roosters showdown.

That victory over the green machine was also crucial as it earned the Sharks a home final and they have been strong in front of their own fans this season.

They have won six out of 10 games on home soil in 2023 and will have the backing of a packed Endeavour Field on Saturday.

Back in round seven they beat the Roosters for the first time since 2017, running out 22-12 victors, and will be looking to do the same again.

They can be backed at 6.00 to win by 6-10 points, while the Roosters are also the same price to win within the same margin.

The Sharks do not have a great record in finals, losing their last five games, but with Ronaldo Mulitalo in the side, they will be looking to snap that streak.

The winger loves PointsBet Stadium, scoring 26 tries in 24 games at the venue, and is priced at 2.00 to score at anytime.

Roosters on a roll

The Roosters may have struggled for periods of the season, but they finished it on a high and have been one of the form teams in the NRL.

The Bondi outfit had to defeat the Rabbitohs last weekend to secure their place in the top eight, and following seven wins on the spin, confidence should be sky high.

Trent Robinson’s side have a great record against the Sharks. They may have lost the game earlier in the season, but they came out on top in the seven previous meetings.

Endeavour Field will hold no fear either, with them having won four of the last five meetings there.

It goes without saying the Roosters have a side packed with quality and players who can rise to the occasion.

Gun fullback and captain James Tedesco is one such player having scored seven tries in his last eight finals matches.

Tedesco can be backed at 13.00 to grab the first try of the game.

The Roosters have also been handed a huge boost with the news star centre Joey Manu has recovered from a hamstring injury and has been named to start.
