Australian Racing: Shinzo ready to climb Everest

There’s a big day of racing with Group 1 action at both Caulfield and Sydney plus the richest race around, the $20,000,000 Everest.

Shinzo for Everest success

The Everest is set to take place over 1200m as the seventh race on a 10-race card at Randwick with Think About It expected to prove popular for the Joseph Pride team.

The gelding is the winner of 10 of his 11 starts to date, including twice at the top level at Eagle Farm earlier this year.

The five-year-old resumed with a head success in the Group 2 Precise Air Premiere Stakes over this course and distance and has the ground to suit here.

I Wish I Win is another with strong claims, with the gelding set to represent the Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman team.

The shorter distance is in his favour here following a third in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield at the start of last month and the Golden Eagle winner is likely to start favourite.

At bigger odds however, last year's Golden Slipper winner SHINZO appeals, as he attempts to become the third three-year-old to win the race following Yes Yes Yes and Giga Kick’s victories in the event.

Trainer Chris Waller knows what it takes to win this race, having taken it with the previously mentioned Yes Yes Yes and with Nature Strip two years ago.

The selection showed improvement with racing last term, with his Group 1 Golden Slipper success the final start of his two-year-old campaign.

The son of Snitzel was lame following his disappointing effort when ninth in the Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400m on seasonal debut and he can make amends with a victory under Kerrin McEvoy.

Fangirl to upset Brightside

Mr Brightside took his winning run to five when delivering a one-and-a-half-length victory in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington a month ago.

The six-year-old is expected to jump as a short-priced favourite for the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes, that is due to take place as the ninth race on the Randwick card.

Regular jockey Craig Williams is again in the saddle and the form of his latest effort has been franked by a subsequent win for runner-up Alligator Blood.

James McDonald’s mount FANGIRL is the pick here however, having delivered a victory under the top hoop when successful in the 1400m Group 1 Winx Stakes at this venue in August.

The five-year-old mare followed that up with a third over this course and distance in a weight-for-age contest, while she demonstrated good form at this Group 1 level last season.

The selections Group 1 efforts last season include placed efforts in the Chipping Norton Stakes here and in the 1500m George Ryder at Rosehill.

The good 4 track is no issue here and the hold up performer is taken to finish strongly to deliver a victory from off the pace.

Steparty for Guineas glory

Paul Preusker saddles STEPARTY in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600m and he is taken to deliver a victory with a good 4 track expected for the three-year-old feature.

John Allen’s mount is unbeaten in five starts and made a successful step up to Group company when winning by a narrow margin in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude over 1400m here last month.

That effort came on a good 3 track, while the change of tactics to racing from off the pace appeared to suit on that occasion.

The Artie Schiller colt is expected to appreciate the step up to 1600m he gets here and he looks capable of maintaining his unbeaten record.
