Australian Racing: Sir Torobeel to shine at Wangaratta

There are three meetings set to take place on Tuesday, including at Wangaratta, where they are set to host an eight-race card.

Race 5 Wangaratta

Sir Torobeel @ 8.50

Race 5 Taree

Go Isla Go @ 2.40

Race 2 Rockhampton

Pepperdine @ 2.00

Sir to salute at Wangaratta

The fifth race on the Wangaratta card is an interesting 1590m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

The Leon & Troy Corstens team are represented by Imasuperstar, with the gelding expected to have his supporters following a good effort at Geelong last month.

The four-year-old lost out by half-a-length when runner-up in a similar race to this held over 1521m on a good 4 track that day having registered some solid efforts in his previous starts this spell.

However, the son of Starcraft has been allocated a wide barrier to overcome, so it can pay dividends to look elsewhere.

SIR TOROBEEL failed to shine in four starts in his last spell, but he showed improved form when jumping at big odds for a 1454m contest at Kyneton last month.

The 8.50 pick contested a Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 4 track on that occasion and, despite having been forced to race wide and without cover, he was narrowly beaten into second.

The form of that race has received a boost since with the third home Not A Brass Razoo scoring on his next start.

The selection has a fair barrier in eight here and, with the promising Sarah Field retaining the ride, he looks capable of delivering a victory here.

All systems Go for Isla at Taree

The fifth race at Taree takes the eye with the 1250m Class 1 handicap set to take place on a soft 7 surface.

Gardenzio is due to carry top weight, with the gelding having showed good form when runner-up in a 1200m Class 1 handicap at Wyong back in August.

The four-year-old has made just the one subsequent start, with that coming when three-and-a-half-lengths sixth in an 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap at Wyong last month.

The son of Menari attempted to make all that day and, while the step up in trip here is expected to suit, GO ISLA GO is preferred here.

The 2.40 selection has raced from the front in each of her last three starts, with the first two of those seeing her finish runner-up in maiden company at Gosford.

Both of those Gosford efforts came over 1200m, including on a heavy 8 track there in November.

The three-year-old jumped at short odds when racing in a set weights maiden over the same distance on a good 4 surface at Coonamble subsequently.

Damien Lane’s filly duly broke her maiden in that Coonamble affair and with an inside alley here she looks up to following up.

Pepperdine to complete four-timer

Rockhampton are due to stage a six-race card on a heavy 8 track and the second race of the day is a 1500m Benchmark 60 handicap event.

Trainer Jared Wehlow boasts a 36% strike-rate (4/11) with his runners in the last month and he saddles PEPPERDINE here.

The selection ended his last spell with a maiden win by a length on a good 4 track at Mackay in August and has resumed in good form with two wins from as many starts.

The second of those victories saw the 2.00 selection race close to the pace prior to saluting by a length in a 1400m Benchmark 55 handicap at this track on December 9th.

The pick steps up in trip here and looks worth another go on a heavy track, with his only previous experience of heavy going coming when down the field at Wangaratta on debut.
