Australian Racing: Sirens Star to shine at Warwick

There’s five meetings set to take place on Wednesday including metro action at Warwick Farm.

Race 4 Warwick Farm

Sirens Star @ 17.00

Race 5 Doomben

Shopping Esprit @ 4.00

Race 4 Belmont Park

Falcon Trader @ 2.00

Star to shine

The fourth race on the Warwick Farm card is a competitive-looking Benchmark 72 contest for fillies and mares.

A good 4 surface is expected for the 1300m event with Anagain expected to prove popular following a string of placed efforts.

Trained by Joseph Pride the four-year-old performed well when finishing strongly for third, beaten two lengths in a Benchmark 78 event over 1200m at Rosehill earlier this month.

The filly shaped as if a return to this distance would suit on that occasion while the quicker ground here should prove no issue.

The daughter of Hinchinbrook has won just once from 15 previous starts however and usually finds at least one too good.

With that in mind SIRENS STAR may prove capable of springing an upset for the Jason Coyle stable. The pick caught the eye when finishing strongly for second in a 1350m Class 1 handicap at Wyong on Christmas Eve.

That effort came on a good 3 track and that event is working out particularly well with the selection having five subsequent winners behind her that day.

Following that effort, Zorocat and Dubai Showgirl are both expected to want to go forward from the barriers here and that may set the race up for a closer.

Sirens Star fits the bill in that regard and having gone well first up in the past she is taken to register her second career success.

Esprit to deliver first up

Security Advisor is expected to have his supporters in the fifth race on the Doomben card. The race concerned is a 1650m Benchmark 70 handicap with a soft 5 track expected.

Trained by Chris Meagher the gelding delivered his first victory this spell when triumphing by a narrow margin in an 1800m Class 1 handicap on a good 4 track at Eagle Farm on 3rd May.

Prior to that the gelding had placed on all four previous starts this spell including over 2070m here on his penultimate outing.

Craig Williams mount has drawn the rail but is expected to find SHOPPING ESPRIT too strong on this occasion. The six-year-old will jump from barrier three on his first outing since finishing down the field over 2060m in a Benchmark 65 event here in November.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding had won twice at Sunshine Coast prior to that including once on the polytrack there.

The gelding comes into this event on the back of a third-place finish in a six runner barrier trial over 1000m at Sunshine Coast.

The selection has won half of his four previous first up starts and looks capable of resuming with a victory.

Trader to complete hat-trick

FALCON TRADER takes the eye in the fourth race at Belmont Park. The 1200m Class 3 handicap has attracted a field of nine with the gelding heading into this event in good form having won both previous starts this spell.

The second of those saw the pick triumph by two-and-a-half-lengths on a good 4 surface over 1200m at Pinjarra on 18th May.

Trained by Brett Pope the pick had previously scored by a length in a maiden over the same course and distance when racing for the first time in 2023.

Jockey Brandon Louis, on board for both of those victories, is again in the saddle and he looks capable of steering the pick to a third win in five career starts.
