Big Bash: Sixers set for Renegades opener

Sydney Sixers will once again be in the mix for the Big Bash League title this season and will be keen to get off to a strong start against Melbourne Renegades.

The Sixers can be backed at 6.00 to win BBL 13 and they look to be the main threat to the hotly fancied Perth Scorchers.

The Renegades on the other hand are not tipped to do very well this season. Like their city rivals, Melbourne Stars, many believe they are in for a campaign of struggle.

They are priced at 4.50 to finish bottom.

The Renegades will also be keen to prove the doubters wrong and will be fired up to cause a boilover against the Sixers on Friday night.

Head-to-heads

The Sixers have dominated recent meetings between the two sides when winning four of the last five matches in convincing fashion.

In BBL 12 the Sixers beat the Renegades by 34 runs in the first match, and then just two days later they won by six wickets with 13 deliveries remaining.

The match before that, the Sixers won by 45 runs, so the Renegades will have a job on their hands to turn things around.

Team news

The Sixers will have Aussie Test legend Steve Smith available for the opening clash of the Big Bash League against the Renegades.

With the Test series against Pakistan set to start next week, Smith’s availability will be limited, but he is sure to start on Friday night.

T20 cricket is important to Smith as he sets his sights on the World Cup next year, and he will be keen to grab any chance he can to play.

Smith can be backed at 3.60 to be Team – Top Batter on Friday night.

Smith could be in for a tough night however as he comes up against a player he knows very well, spin king Adam Zampa.

Zampa joined the Renegades from Melbourne Stars and will be full of confidence after shining at the World Cup. Zampa is priced at 3.60 to be Team – Top Bowler.

However the Renegades will be without Nathan Lyon, who has decided to skip the match while he focuses on the first Test against Pakistan.
