Adelaide United and Auckland FC face off in a top-of the-ladder clash at Coopers Stadium on Wednesday night.

Adelaide are the form team in the A-League after winning the last three games on the bounce, while Auckland have lost just once in the last five games.

Both sides head into the clash on the back of impressive wins in Matchday 15 and with Adelaide just one point ahead of Auckland, the stakes are high.

There is still a long way to go, but the clash could turn out to be decisive in the race to win the A-League minor premiership.

It is the first ever meeting between the two sides and whoever picks up three points will be given a huge boost.

Reds bang in form

Adelaide United have moved to the top of the A-League ladder thanks to three wins on the bounce, and will be out to make it four against Auckland.

They came from behind to beat Melbourne Victory 3-2 at the weekend, and scoring goals is not an issue for them.

However they will be keen to tighten things up at the back having failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last five games.

Some of Adelaide’s best form has been away from Coopers Stadium this season.

Indeed they have won their last six games on the road, while their form on home soil has been indifferent.

The win over Melbourne Victory at the weekend was their first at Coopers Stadium since the start of November.

They were involved in a couple of high-scoring draws against Sydney FC and Perth Glory, and another close game looks to be on the cards against Auckland FC.

Auckland have the stingiest defence in the A-League however, so it could also be a tight affair.

Auckland on a high

Auckland should head into the clash full of confidence after pulling off one of the results of their debut season so far at the weekend.

They picked up a very impressive 3-0 win over Melbourne City to take them to second place on the ladder, and could go top on Wednesday.

It was the perfect response after losing away at Perth Glory the week before, which was their only defeat in the last five games.

Auckland now have seven clean sheets to their name this season and keeping Adelaide out will be key to their chances.

Steve Corica’s men have struggled for goals at times, and only Central Coast Mariners in the top nine teams have scored less.

But when they click, they have goals in them, as the win over City and a 4-1 win over Central Coast Marines has shown.

Guillermo May, who bagged in the win over Melbourne City, is Auckland’s leading scorer, with four goals so far this season.
