On a four-game losing streak in the Premier League going into Monday’s game at the Gtech Community Stadium, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of three points against Brentford.
Injury-plagued Spurs got back to winning ways in midweek with a 3-0 victory over Elfsborg in the UEFA Europa League, which has been a competition that has provided a much-needed distraction for Tottenham’s Premier League plight.
The early hours of Monday morning provide an opportunity to get back to winning ways in the league for Spurs but it certainly won’t be easy against Thomas Frank’s Brentford.
Speaking to the media ahead of the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium, Postecoglou confirmed defender Mickey Van de Ven should start against the Bees on Monday.
The talented centre-back has been sorely missed due to injury but did start against Elfsborg and came through the encounter against the Swedish outfit unscathed.
It’s a significant boost for Spurs to have Van de Ven back and it’s hopefully the start of better injury news for Tottenham going forward.
Spurs do find themselves as the underdogs going into this game against Brentford, with the visitors at 3.20 to head back to north London with the three points.
Despite Tottenham’s recent form in the Premier League, Frank won’t be falling into the trap thinking Monday’s game with be a comfortable one for this side.
Brentford had their own injury issues last season and Frank has been full of sympathy for Postecoglou’s plight this term.
"We were also hit very hard by injuries last year so, from that perspective, I understand the situation Ange is in now at Tottenham,” Frank told reporters on Friday.
"When results are also not going your way, that's tough. They're things we need to deal with as managers and I'm convinced that Ange is doing that well and he will get through it.
Brentford are the 2.10 favourites to claim the win over Spurs, while a draw, which has occurred in the last four meetings between these sides at the Gtech Community Stadium in all competitions, is currently available at 2.90.
