Macarthur FC v Melbourne City: A-League Saturday preview

Melbourne City will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they make the trip to Macarthur FC on Saturday evening.

City were flying after three wins on the bounce but came unstuck with a surprise 3-0 defeat away at Auckland FC.

They remain third on the ladder and in the hunt for the minor premiership, but cannot afford many more slip ups as they chase silverware.

Macarthur are also in need of a result after losing to Wellington Phoenix on home soil.

The battle to finish in the top six and play finals is a tight one and three points will be the order of the day at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

Bulls look to repay home fans

Macarthur have the chance to put things right in from of their home supporters when they take on Melbourne City at Campbelltown Stadium.

The Bulls have been poor at home all season, winning just one game, and they need to put things right if they are to make the top six.

Their only win at home was the 6-1 thrashing of Perth Glory on the opening day of the season.

They have since gone on to lose four and draw two, so it is a good job their away form has been much better.

Macarthur did beat Melbourne City 2-0 in this fixture last season and could do with the same again.

Keeping clean sheets has been an issue however, keeping just one in the last seven games, but scoring goals at the other is not.

Indeed only Adelaide United and Sydney FC have score more. Valere Germain continues to be a big threat having scored six goals this season.

Jed Drew also has six, while Marin Jakolis has four, proving they have goals all over the pitch.

City look to tighten up

City will be out to pick up their first win at Macarthur since March 2022, when the two sides clash on Saturday.

They have a decent record, winning three of the last six meetings, while two have ended in draws, plus on defeat.

Before the 3-0 loss to Auckland, City had won three games on the bounce, keeping a clean sheet in each, which made the defeat even more surprising.

City will look to revert to form and they do have one of the tightest defences in the A-League, conceding just 13 so far this season.

But they are not as prolific as they used to be, scoring just 21.

There have been two draws between these two in the last six games, and a tight, low-scoring affair could be on the cards on Saturday.

Benjamin Mazzeo has scored a goal in two of the last three games, and will look to keep that form going against Macarthur.
