Macarthur FC v Wellington Phoenix: A-League Monday preview

Macarthur FC have won three of their last four A-League matches and the Bulls will hope to continue their good form when Wellington Phoenix head to Campbelltown Stadium on Monday.

Phoenix arrive in Leumeah on a run of only one win in seven Australian top-flight matches and the Nix will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Macarthur can continue to entertain

Macarthur have scored 27 goals across their 13 A-League matches this season and that trend for attacking action looks set to continue against Wellington.

It’s been a pretty good campaign for Mile Sterjovski’s men, who moved into the top five places on the A-League ladder heading into this week’s round of fixtures, and the Bulls have been in good form.

It’s one defeat in eight for the Leumeah outfit, with three wins in four games and there has been plenty of entertainment too.

Macarthur have seen 45 goals scored in the 13 A-League matches this term and that includes matches which have finished 6-1, 4-4, 3-2 and 3-1.

The Bulls have hit the net 10 times in their last four games and five of Macarthur’s last six matches have gone over 2.5 goals.

In fact, the six A-League contests at Campbelltown Stadium this season are averaging at four goals per game and another high-scoring contest is anticipated.

Wellington had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Sydney last time out and that made it only one victory in seven games for Phoenix.

The Nix have allowed eight goals in their last three away games and that has to be a concern for the trip to Campbelltown Stadium.

There have been 15 goals in Wellington’s five away league matches this term and Giancarlo Italiano’s men are likely to lack the defensive solidity to keep a forward-thinking Macarthur at bay.

The Nix allowed 21 shots on goal in their latest away day at Melbourne City, it was 22 at Western Sydney and 20 at Auckland.

Those numbers make it near on impossible to keep a clean sheet and a repeat of those away efforts is likely to give the Bulls plenty of opportunities to find the net.

Backing over 3.5 goals at 2.62 looks the best play in what should be an entertaining Campbelltown contest.

Bulls set to charge to success

At 3.40 backing a Macarthur victory and both teams to score appears to be another solid bet.

The Bulls have put up expected goals figures of 2.19, 0.47, 2.92 and 1.59 in their last four A-League games and they look pretty tasty numbers against a Wellington team who have conceded 60 shots in their last three matches.

Phoenix will take some hope from away wins at Central Coast and Perth, which were achieved in their opening two league matches of the season.

However, as the season has progressed, Italiano's men have lacked the defensive fortitude to allow their attacking players to get them in the game.
