Macarthur v Newcastle Jets: A-League Friday Preview

After a 6-2 thrashing on home turf against Western United, Newcastle Jets boss Robert Stanton will be seeking a response from his players when they head to Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Friday night to take on Macarthur.

Having gone on an eight-game unbeaten streak in the A-League, that run for the Jets came to an abrupt halt at McDonald Jones Stadium with that heavy defeat to Western United.

Granted United are flying high in the table and currently occupy second spot on the ladder but much more was expected from Stanton’s men.

Friday provides an opportunity for Newcastle to get back in the saddle and they have the chance to move level on points with Macarthur on the ladder if they can beat Mile Sterjovski’s side on Friday.

Jets fired up to respond after Adelaide rout

Newcastle were 5-0 down before they finally got a goal of their own against Western United at the 65th-minute mark thanks to an effort from Charles M'Mombwa.

Two goals down within eight minutes of that game, Newcastle know they will require a much stronger start if they are to head back north with all three points.

Newcastle earned a 2-1 win in their last visit to Campbelltown Stadium and the Jets are 2.87 to come away with the spoils on Friday.

Macarthur can take confidence

The Bulls were on a three-game losing streak before they finally got back to winning ways with a thrilling 5-4 victory at Adelaide United.

Luke Bratton bagged his first two goals of the A-League season in that victory at Coopers Stadium, against an Adelaide side who are struggling for form despite being up in sixth place on the ladder.

Macarthur will be hoping that result can kick-start a positive run of form for themselves and they are slight favourites at 2.30 to make it back-to-back wins in the A-League for the first time since New Year's Day.
