Melbourne City are chasing second spot on the A-League ladder as they prepare for Friday night's clash with Brisbane Roar.

City have hit a solid run of form at just the right time and find themselves just one point behind Western United who hold second spot.

They are six points behind ladder-leaders Auckland FC, but with just four games of the regular season remaining, that looks to be a bridge too far.

However second place is crucial when it comes to playing finals, and City need all three points to keep the pressure on.

Brisbane are at the wrong end of the ladder, but still have all to play for as they look to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

They have shown they are capable of an upset this season, and cannot be written off at AAMI Park.

City in top form

Melbourne City looking to be hitting form at a good time after winning four out of the last five games.

But with Western United also on a winning streak, City cannot afford any slip ups between now and the end of the season if they are to finish second.

Apart from conceding two goals in their 3-2 win against Sydney, City have been keeping it tight at the back, keeping three clean sheets in the last five games.

Two of the wins were 1-0 and that was the scoreline when City and Brisbane met back in January.

Under 2.5 goals in the game on Friday night can be backed at 2.20, while over 2.5 is priced at 1.66.

A 1-0 win to Melbourne City can also be backed at 8.00.

Andreas Kuen is leading the way with seven assists in 14 games, and is priced at 5.00 to chip in with another against Brisbane.

Brisbane slip back to old ways

Roar picked up a much-needed 3-1 win away at Perth Glory to move off the foot of the ladder, but have since lost the last two games.

They were hammered 5-1 by Macarthur FC in their last game and need to pick themselves up and go again against Melbourne City.

Roar are still in danger of picking up the wooden spoon and have to find some points over the remaining games.

Their record against City is not great, winning just one of the last six.
