Melbourne City v Newcastle Jets: A-League Wednesday preview

Melbourne City will be out to continue their strong run of form when they entertain Newcastle Jets in the A-League on Wednesday evening.

With the business end of the season fast approaching, City could be starting to peak at just the right time after winning three of the last four.

That run has taken them up to third place on the ladder and given them a real chance of clinching second spot, which is crucial come finals.

Newcastle will not be easy opponents, however, after the Jets strung together an undefeated streak of five matches, winning three of them.

The top six looks to be out of reach still, but they will want to finish the season as strongly as possible.

City find form at the right time

City head into this game on the back of two victories, against Wellington Phoenix and Macarthur FC.

Not only that, they have managed to keep two clean sheets in the process, indeed, they have conceded just two goals over the last four games.

It bodes well for the rest of the season and they will be out for another clean sheet and three points against the Jets.

Newcastle have failed to score a goal against City in the last three meetings, the last of which saw Melbourne win 1-0 in October last year.

With that in mind, under 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 2.30.

Max Caputo grabbed both goals in the victory over Macarthur at the weekend and is priced at 2.40 to score at anytime against the Jets.

Jets are on a roll

The Jets are also enjoying a good run of form and are undefeated in the last five games.

After winning three on the bounce, they held ladder-leaders Auckland FC to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.

Eli Adams got the opening goal of the game, before Auckland hit back to equalise.

Adams now has a goal in each of the last two games and will be out to make it three in a row and he can be backed at 5.00 to score at anytime.

The Jets have travelled well in the last two games, winning 2-1 at Adelaide after drawing 2-2 with Central Coast Mariners.

Another positive result on the road is not beyond the realms of possibility and would keep alive their slim hopes of making the top six.
