Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix: A-League Friday preview

Melbourne City will be looking to snap their drawing streak when they welcome Wellington Phoenix to AAMI Park for A-League on Friday.

City have shared the spoils in their last three matches - the last two results coming on the road - while the Nix ended a run of three consecutive defeats with a 2-1 triumph at home to Newcastle Jets last time out.

City need home boost

AAMI Park has not been a happy hunting ground for City so far this season, with defeats to Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers followed by a 2-2 draw against Auckland.

Head coach Aurelio Vidmar knows his side need to step things up at home but there is no guarantee that will come in Friday's encounter against Wellington, who have been up-and-down this term.

The Phoenix collected 10 points from the opening 15 on offer in the A-League - a 2-0 defeat to Auckland the only defeat during that five-game period - before three straight defeats derailed them.

Wellington bounced back last time out, beating the Jets 2-1, and they are now looking up the standings rather than over their shoulders.

Giancarlo Italiano's troops are dangerous customers on their day, evidenced by away victories at both Perth Glory and Central Gold Coast Mariners, but they also struggle for consistency on the road with losses at Auckland and Western Sydney.

City are on a four-match unbeaten streak heading into this contest, winning one and drawing three, but the fact they have shared the spoils in their last three outings makes it hard to back them with any confidence.

Given the Nix bounced back to winning ways last time out, they will feel confident of getting a positive result from this clash and the draw is priced at 4.33.

Expect goals in entertaining clash

Goals shouldn't be hard to come by in this encounter, given that Melbourne have plundered 16 from nine matches and have failed to score in just one of those fixtures.

Wellington have fared a little worse in the scoring department, netting 12 times from their nine assignments, but they have also been blanked just once during that period.

The Nix have scored in all four away matches, with seven of their total tally of 12 coming on the road, while City have found the back of the net in two of their three home games.

With both to score landing in the last four games for both teams, there are odds of 1.66 on this happening again, while over 2.5 goals to come in is at 1.66, given that there have been three or more goals in two of Melbourne's three home matches and in Wellington's last three away contests.
