Melbourne Victory v Perth Glory: A-League Sunday preview

Melbourne Victory could be in with a chance of jumping to the top of the A-League ladder when they host Perth Glory on Sunday.

They sit two points behind Auckland FC, who play on Saturday, and a win could take them top if the competition’s new boys drop points.

Victory have made a great start to life under Patrick Kisnorbo, winning four of the opening six games, and look set up for a good season.

Glory on the other hand, have yet to win, but they did show signs of encouragement with a 2-2 at Adelaide United at the weekend.

A result at AAMI Park on Sunday would be an even bigger surprise, but shocks do often happen in what can be an unpredictable A-League.

Victory back on track

After losing their first game of the season against Wellington Phoenix, Victory bounced back with a 3-1 win at Western United.

It was their fourth win of the season and kept them in second place on the ladder.

Bruno Fornaroli finally opened his account in that win, and Victory will now be hoping that last season’s leading goalscorer can kick on from there.

Victory could be more prolific in front of goal this season, scoring just 10 so far, but it is at the back where they have really stepped up.

They have conceded just the four goals so far, and with a defence that is so tight, they will pick up plenty of points this season.

Games between these two sides are often high-scoring. At least three goals have been scored in each of the last three games, and it could be a goal-fest on Sunday.

Glory have been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats and have leaked a massive 18 goals already.

Taggart the man for Glory

It has been a tough start to the season for Perth Glory, who have yet to win a game, and have been the whipping boys of the A-League.

However as long as they have Adam Taggart, they have hope. The strike ace bagged two goals in the 2-2 draw with Adelaide at the weekend, to take his tally for the season to three.

Glory have scored just four all season, so once again Taggart is stepping up to the plate despite the club’s struggles.

Both of Glory’s points this season have been away from home at Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide, so they have shown they can get a result at tough venues.

A point over Victory would be huge, but they should be feeling good about themselves following the result in Adelaide.
