Newcastle Jets v Auckland FC: A-League Sunday Preview

Auckland FC will be out to return to winning ways when they hit the road to take on the Newcastle Jets on Sunday afternoon.

Steve Corica’s side saw their four-match winning streak come to an end in an eight-goal thriller against Adelaide last weekend.

They still have a healthy eight-point lead at the top of the A-League ladder, but will want the three points at McDonald Jones Stadium.

It will be far from easy against a Jets side that have now won the last three on the bounce to keep alive their faint hopes of making the top six.

Another three points on Sunday could edge them a step closer and keep the dream alive.

Jets hit top form

Newcastle Jets have hit a strong run of form, but it may have come too late to force their way into the top six.

They are unbeaten in the last five games, winning the last three on the spin, so at least they are giving it a good go.

Scoring goals has not been an issue, firing home eight in the last three games, while they have only conceded two.

Their latest success was a 3-1 home win against Brisbane Roar. Clayton Taylor was among the goals, scoring his second in the last three games.

The defence has been strong in the last three games, but it will be tested on Sunday when they face an Auckland side that have found their shooting boots.

Looking at the results of both sides in recent weeks, there is a good chance there will be plenty of goals.

Newcastle are undefeated in the last three home games, and should be full of confidence back on home soil.

Goals rain in for Auckland

Auckland scored four goals in their latest clash against Adelaide but, unfortunately for them, they also conceded four in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

But at least they have found their shooting boots, scoring 10 goals over the last two games.

They now just need to return to keeping things tight at the back, something they have done for most of the season.

Guillermo May chipped in with another couple of goals against Adelaide, to take his tally for the season to seven.

May can be backed at 2.50 to score at anytime during the game.

Auckland will get the chance to complete the double over the Jets after beating them 2-0 back in November.

Their recent form away from home has been good, picking up wins at both Western United and Western Sydney Wanderers.
