Perth Glory v Western United: A-League Friday preview

Western United have shown significant signs of progress this season and they will be looking to further prove how far they have come by trying to avoid a slip-up against Perth Glory at HBF Stadium on Friday night.

United only managed seven wins from 27 games in the A-League last season but, after a strong start to the new campaign, they have already earned four victories in their first 10 games.

Sat in sixth place with 15 points, coach John Aloisi and his players deserve praise for their promising start to the campaign.

In contrast, Friday’s opponents Perth continue to struggle at the foot of the ladder where they finished the 2023/24 season.

Another tough game awaits Perth against a resurgent Western United who are showing a path that Glory should be looking to follow.

United on a roll

Unbeaten in four and winning all of their last three A-League outings, United are in a good place going into the long trip west.

Earning a 4-3 win at Sydney FC before a 4-0 victory on the road at Auckland FC, United backed up those performances with a 1-0 win on home turf against Brisbane Roar last time out.

Those nine points have seen United shoot up the ladder and now there is growing excitement about the direction this team is heading.

Scoring nine goals in those last three outings, Western United have looked more clinical in the final third, with Hiroshi Ibusuki scoring two goals in the previous two games.

The Japanese forward is 2.37 to score anytime on Friday and 5.50 to bag the opening goal of the game.

Home form needs addressing for Perth

Rather than a fortress, HBF Stadium has become a ground where visiting teams like to play.

Perth have lost all of their five home games this season, and even more worryingly, they have only managed to score one goal in that time.

Western United have already won 2-1 there this season, in the only game where Glory have managed to score a goal at home this term.

Given their struggles in front of goal, Perth to lose to nil is currently 3.75.
