Rangers v Tottenham: UEFA Europa League preview

Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur might well welcome the distraction of the UEFA Europa League when they go head-to-head at Ibrox on Friday morning.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are struggling for consistency in the Premier League, while Rangers have allowed arch-rivals Celtic to move 11 points clear of them in the Scottish Premiership standings.

Rangers and Tottenham have enjoyed positive starts in the UEFA Europa League this season and, both sitting on 10 points after their first five games, they will be hoping to take another step closer towards the knockout stages when they meet at Ibrox.

Spurs in need of morale boost

Without a win in their last four games in all competitions, Spurs have hit a poor patch of form since their superb 4-0 win at Manchester City last month.

Drawing with both Roma and Fulham in north London, Spurs went on to lose away at Bournemouth, before throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 to rivals Chelsea last time out.

With confidence shaken and pressure starting to mount on Postecoglou, he could certainly use a morale-boosting win against his former rivals at Rangers.

Gers hoping for Ibrox inspiration

In contrast, Rangers find themselves in good recent form, winning all of their last four games in all competitions, including an impressive 4-1 win at Nice in the UEFA Europa League.

As far as the Premiership goes, it would take some collapse from Celtic to get themselves back in the running but there is still hope of making the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League this season.

Gers earned a 4-0 win over FCSB in their last Euroean game at Ibrox and will be hoping the home crowd can inspire them to cause an upset against Premier League opposition this week.
