Sydney FC v Perth Glory: A-League Wednesday Preview

Perth Glory have already lost eight times in the A-League this season and boss David Zdrilic will take his side to face former club Sydney FC for another tough test at Allianz Park on Wednesday.

In the opposite dugout, Ufuk Talay has a patchy record with his Sky Blues side this term, winning four and losing four of their 10 games.

Zdrilic back on familiar turf

Glory head coach Zdrilic has been keen to play down the significance of facing his former club Sydney FC for the first time.

The 50-year-old Sydney native won the A-League Championship as a foundation player for the Sky Blues before working in the club's academy and then returning in 2023 as assistant to then head coach Steve Corica.

His history at the Sky Blues won't have a major impact on this contest, which his Perth Glory side are priced at 10.00 to win.

"I spent a lot of my A-League time at Sydney FC both as a player and as a coach in different forms," he said. "So it's a club that I know well, but other than that, it's just business as usual."

While remaining focused on the need for a rebuild at Perth Glory, Zdrilic concedes there is pressure on his side to deliver 'points and a performance' after narrowly missing out in 3-2 home loss against Western United last time out.

Sydney record far from promising for Glory

Perth's hopes of a second A-League win of the season will rely on the visiting side winning at the Allianz Stadium for the first time since 2016.

The Glory have won only four of their 16 previous meetings with Sydney FC at the Moore Park venue.

The visiting side have received some positive news on the injury front after Zdrilic confirmed that Nikola Mileusnic is poised to return to squad for the first time since injuring his hamstring against Melbourne City in Round 4, leaving David Williams (ACL) as the only confirmed absentee for Perth.

The head coach admits that he is relying on younger players, which isn't ideal, with squad rotation unlikely.

Hosts firing in the goals

Sydney FC, 1.25 for the win here, are as low as eighth in the A-League standings, but the Sky Blues are a potent threat.

Only Adelaide United, Macarthur and Western Sydney Wanderers have scored more goals than Sydney's 22.

English import Joe Lolley has bagged five and Polish forward Patryk Klimala has scored four so far. They are proving a potent combo, with former Nottingham Forest winger Lolley trading at 5.50 to score the opener in this contest.

Brazilian marquee man Douglas Costa, who has been ruled out by a hamstring injury, is the only notable absentee for the home side.

Sydney are thriving in front of goal but have managed just one clean sheet in 10 A-League outings.

Both teams to score is 1.61, while a victory for Talay's team in which both sides find the net is priced at 2.25.
