Sydney FC v Macarthur FC: A-League preview

Sydney FC will look to keep the pressure on at the top of the A-League ladder when they host Macarthur FC on Saturday.

Sydney have won two and lost one of their opening three games to put themselves in the top three and they need to keep the wins coming Macarthur.

Macarthur need to snap a two-game losing streak so there will be plenty on the line at Allianz Stadium.

Reigning premiers Central Coast Mariners are searching for their first win of the season when they take on Wellington Phoenix, while Perth Glory will be targeting an upset against Melbourne City.

Sydney FC were missing star players Joe Lolley and Douglas Costa in the thrilling 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar, but they are set to return against Macarthur.

Patryk Klimala bagged another goal in the win, but Ufuk Talay will be delighted to have both Lolley and Costa back in the fold.

These two sides have shared the spoils in recent meetings, with Macarthur winning five of the last 10 games. Sydney won four, while one ended in a draw.

There is usually goals when they meet, with three or more scored in four of the last six meetings.

After beating Perth Glory 6-1 in the opening week, Macarthur have thrown away leads to lose 2-1 against both Newcastle and Melbourne Victory.

Mariners searching for three points

The Mariners have drawn all of their opening three games, which is a big improvement on last season when they lost three on the bounce.

They went on to dominate the season, so there will be no panic in the Mariners camp.

Even so, following a goalless draw with Perth Glory last week, they will be keen to get up and running.

Wellington Pheonix became Auckland FC’s latest victim last weekend, losing 2-0, and they will be looking to bounce back.

The Mariners have won the last two meetings 2-1 in Gosford, while the Phoenix have won just one in the last six.

Glory out to cause upset

Perth Glory picked up their first point of the season with a hard-fought goalless draw against Central Coast last week, and will take heart from it.

Back on home soil and Glory will be targeting an upset against a City side that picked up a 1-0 win over Western United on Monday.

City have been hit by the news Andrew Nabbout has suffered an ACL injury, while Marco Tilio could also be ruled out.

However City will feel they still have the players to get the job done in the west.
