Tamworth v Tottenham: FA Cup Sunday preview

Tottenham Hotspur turn their attention to the FA Cup when they face non-league Tamworth late on Sunday night, with the Lilywhites aiming to keep alive another potential route to silverware his season.

Ange Postecoglou has seen his side slip down to 12th place on the Premier League ladder following a run of four games without a win.

However, a 1-0 midweek home victory over league leaders Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg will have boosted morale ahead of the clash with the Lambs, who are currently 16th in the National League - the top tier of non-league football in England.

Lambs a danger after League One double

On paper this should be a straightforward task for Spurs, but the artificial surface used at The Lamb Ground means that the test may be a lot stiffer than the odds suggest.

Tamworth have won five, drawn five and lost just two of their home league games played so far this season, as well as taking out League One sides in the first two rounds of the FA Cup.

Huddersfield Town were beaten 1-0 at The Lamb in round one, before hosts Burton Albion were seen off after a penalty shootout in the second round, with manager Andy Peaks handed a new contract running until 2027 in the run-up to the Spurs clash.

Since ousting the Brewers in round two, Tamworth have played two out of seven on their own patch and have held the top two teams in the National League - York City and Forest Green Rovers - to 1-1 draws, so it is clear that they are a force to be reckoned with at home.

They are still massive 10.00 outsiders to pull off a huge shock and reach the fourth round, with the tie to be settled on the day as replays have been removed from the calendar.

Postecoglou is taking Tamworth seriously

Spurs head coach Postecoglou is determined to ensure that his players are fully focused for the task in hand, with the Lilywhites training on an artificial surface to try and ensure that they are well prepared.

And the Australian says he has "no doubt on the attitude of the players", although he accepts that he will not be able to rotate his line-up as much as he would have liked due to a lengthy injury list.

One selection was confirmed by Postecoglou in his pre-match press conference, with recent signing Antonin Kinsky starting in goal after marking his debut with a clean sheet in the midweek win over Liverpool.

In defence Sergio Reguilon is poised to be handed a start, while Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison are set to feature in midfield, with Timo Werner, Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear the most likely starters in the front three.

That would allow Postecoglou to give some rest to the likes of Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min, with a number of youngsters also in line for call-ups.

Tottenham last lifted the FA Cup back in 1991, beating Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Wembley final, while they have not lost in the third round since 2014, when they were beaten 2-0 at north London rivals Arsenal.
