Shock defeats are becoming less shocking these days for Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.

Few predicted Spurs would hand Ipswich Town their first win of the Premier League season, or Crystal Palace their first either.

However, there was something more predictable about Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth in midweek, which will have seen pressure continue to mount on Postecoglou and his inconsistent Lilywhites.

What should work in Spurs’ favour against Chelsea is that Tottenham have tended to show up for the big games this season.

Beating Manchester City twice in the EFL Cup and the Premier League this term, Spurs have shown they can go toe-to-toe with the best.

However, it will be a big ask for Tottenham to get something from this game, against a Chelsea side who have been extremely consistent in recent weeks.

Chelsea impressed once again in midweek as they earned a 5-1 win over Southampton to move up to second place in the Premier League table.

A team that have gone somewhat under the radar when it comes to the Premier League title race, the Blues have been going along nicely under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Even Maresca himself has admitted he’s been pleasantly surprised by the start he has made since making the move from Leicester City.

The Italian has made the right move in cutting off the deadwood and focusing on a core group of players in an overly large Chelsea squad.

Those players have bought into his way of playing and the Blues have been reaping the rewards with their results in recent weeks.

With one defeat in their last 10 games in all competitions, Chelsea look like serious contenders for some silverware this season.

The Blues will certainly fancy their chances of adding to Tottenham’s recent struggles and maintaining their own push for what would be a surprise Premier League title.
