Tottenham v Nottingham Forest: Premier League Tuesday preview

Tottenham kept their season alive by reaching the Europa League semi-finals in midweek, but now they are back to Premier League action and a visit from UEFA Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest.

Spurs would have hoped to be in the position Forest find themselves in now, but instead they are down in 15th place on the ladder and could be two places lower by the time they take to the field in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Forest, meanwhile, are fourth on the ladder, but need to find a response after losing Aston Villa and Everton in their last two league matches.

Europa League win lifts spirits

Spurs' Premier League season has simply never got going and their recent form is dismal, with the only victory in their last six coming at home to already-relegated Southampton.

However, Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou was typically defiant after seeing his side win 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, saying: "The whole team worked awfully hard and that is what you have to do in Europe and especially away from home."

That victory came at the expense of James Maddison taking a nasty knock as he won the penalty which was converted by Dominic Solanke to decide the tie.

However, midfield playmaker Maddison is expected to be okay to feature against Forest, although Heung-Min Son faces a race against time to play a part at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he is struggling with a foot problem.

The other notable absentee is central defender Radu Dragusin, who has been out since before Christmas due to a serious knee injury.

The Lilywhites had won their four previous top-flight matches against Forest by a two-goal margin before suffering a 1-0 reverse at the City Ground on Boxing Day, with Anthony Elanga scoring the only goal of the game and the Londoners having Djed Spence sent off late on.

Spurs are 2.45 to claim all three points on Tuesday morning, while both teams to score is as narrow as 1.50.

Forest faltering at key time

Forest have enjoyed a superb season to date, not only challenging for a UEFA Champions League spot for next season, but also reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo's side's excellent form, they find themselves under pressure to secure a top-five finish that would ensure a return to Europe's top club competition.

They could have dropped to sixth place before taking to the field in north London, but Nuno expects his players to fight until the ed of the season, telling reporters: "We embrace the challenge. We are not stepping back, we are stepping in. We want to try and get it (UEFA Champions League)."

The Portuguese tactician hopes to have star striker Chris Wood fully fit, with the New Zealand ace having lasted the full 90 minutes against Everton after missing three games due to a hip injury.

He told reporters: "We have to manage Chris, he has been out for a while. We are positive that on Tuesday he will be better."

Wood, who has scored 18 times in the Premier League this season, is 2.60 to score at anytime against Tottenham, while Elanga is 3.75 to notch for the second time this season against the Lilywhites.

Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi face late tests to see whether they can feature at the TH Stadium, but they are the only two notable injuries among the Forest squad.
