Western United FC v Auckland FC: A-League Saturday Preview

Western United head into a clash with minor premiers Auckland FC needing a positive result on Saturday to have any chance of finishing second on the ladder.

Western are one point behind Melbourne City in second, but there is a chance they could jump above them if they avoid defeat, and City lose.

City are at home to Sydney FC, who need to win to force their way into the top six and play finals, so it looks sure to be a tense final round of fixtures in the A-League.

There is no tension in the Auckland camp however, after they wrapped up the title in their debut A-League campaign.

Now all eyes will be on winning the grand final and completing the double, and they will be keen to keep the momentum going.

Western all out for the win

A draw could do Western if Melbourne City lose at home to Sydney, but John Aloisi’s side are sure to go all out for the win.

Two defeats in the last three games did put a dent in their top-two chances, but they bounced back well with a 1-0 win over Sydney last week.

The two sides have already played each other on two occasions this season, winning one game each.

Auckland won 2-0 at Western back in February, which was revenge for the 4-0 whitewash in Auckland in December.

Over 2.5 goals in the latest clash can be backed at 1.57, while under 2.5 goals is available at 2.37.

Noah Botic is always a huge threat in front of goal and is 6.00 to score the first goal of the game, or 2.37 to score at any time.

Auckland top of the pile

It has been a remarkable debut season for Auckland as they head into the final game of the regular season with an eight-point lead at the top.

It will be interesting to see if Steve Corica will give players a rest ahead of finals, but he will also be keen to keep the momentum going.

They have beaten Melbourne Victory 2-0 and Perth Glory 1-0 in the last two games, and keeping clean sheets has been one of their trademarks this season.

Auckland have conceded just 23 goals all season, and have hit the back of the net on 47 occasions.

Guillermo May scored one of the goals in a 2-0 win at Western in February, and he is 2.75 to score at anytime.
