Australian Racing: Sonata set to sizzle at Mount Isa

There are three meetings scheduled to take place on Monday, with Dubbo, Donald and Mount Isa the venues for the action.

Race 4 Dubbo

Kirameki @ 8.50

Race 1 Donald

Lonhstretto @ 5.00

Race 7 Mount Isa

Sizzling Sonata @ 2.20

Kirameki goes for Dubbo glory

The fourth race on the Dubbo card is a highly competitive 1318m maiden handicap contest.

A heavy 8 track is expected, with Invahir likely to prove popular following an improved effort when third over 1200m at Gold Coast Poly at the start of the month.

The three-year-old took a step forward on that occasion, having finished a fair fifth over the same distance when racing on a soft 6 track on his penultimate outing.

A wide barrier isn’t ideal in this contest given the gelding raced prominently last time out, while Wendy Peel takes the ride for the first time and her mount looks opposable.

The filly KIRAMEKI is preferred on this occasion, having delivered second place finishes in two of her three starts at this venue.

The most recent of those efforts saw the pick finish less than a length behind the leader in a maiden over 14000m on a soft 5 track June 26th.

The 8.50 selection followed that effort up with a good half-length third when tackling a 1400m maiden at Tamworth recently.

The daughter of Mikki Isle proved that she handles the forecast wet going here having encountered a heavy 10 track in her previously mentioned Tamworth effort.

The pick is a versatile type with regards to tactics and looks capable of recording a victory stepping up in distance.

Lonhstretto ready to break maiden

Newcomers Justamatteroftime and Mattei both have good barriers for the opening race on the Donald card.

The 1200m maiden has attracted a field of 12, with the pair having been given barriers two and one respectively.

Justamatteroftime is the only one of the pair to have had any barrier trial experience prior to this debut, most recently when third over 1100m at Tatura.

However, the race experience of LONHSTRETTO is expected to prove too much for the unraced pair.

The 5.00 pick showed good form in finishing runner-up after racing prominently on a soft 7 track when tackling an 1100m maiden at Horsham on debut.

The Dissident filly raced from the front on her next start, prior to finishing third when beaten less than a length in a maiden over the same at Bendigo.

The selection did best of those racing on the speed that day and, with Melissa Julius retaining the ride, looks up to breaking her maiden at the third attempt.

Sonata to double up

The finale at Mount Isa is an 1100m Class 3 contest, with SIZZLING SONATA taken to deliver a victory following a success at Richmond last time out.

That victory came when tackling a six-runner 1000m Benchmark 60 contest just over a month ago.

Freshened prior to that effort, the 2.20 four-year-old had delivered some solid efforts at Warnambool, Mt Gambier and Wangaratta earlier this year, having won at the last named venue back in December.

That triumph came when racing from off the pace prior to finishing strongly for a Benchmark 58 success over 1170m and, with that in mind, he should have no issue with the trip here.

Trainer Jay Morris has saddled two winners from his five runners in the last 30 days and his representative looks up to scoring, with in-form hoop Dan Ballard up.
